Description

There are plenty of .380 pistols out there, but most of them are tiny blowback guns that snap in your hand and fight you on every slide rack. The Browning 1911-380 takes a different route. It shrinks John Browning's 1911 design down to about 85 percent of the original .45 ACP size and runs a true locked-breech, tilting barrel action, so the recoil spring is lighter and the slide is genuinely easy to work. At 18 ounces empty with a 4.25 inch barrel, it carries light but still gives your whole hand a place to go, which makes a real difference in how controllable the .380 ACP cartridge feels.

The Medallion Pro Treatment

This is the dressed-up version of the lineup, and it shows. The stainless steel slide wears a blackened finish with brushed silver polished flats, and the checkered rosewood-colored laminate grips carry a gold Buckmark inlay. It draws eyes at the range, but the good looks ride on practical features: steel three-dot combat sights dovetailed into the slide, a skeletonized hammer and trigger, an extended ambidextrous thumb safety, and a beavertail grip safety with a memory bump that keeps your hand clear of hammer bite. The flat mainspring housing rounds out a grip that fits a wide range of hand sizes. This model also adds a Picatinny rail on the dust cover, so mounting a light or laser is simple.

Why the 1911-380 Makes Sense for Carry and Range Days

The crisp single-action trigger is the big draw here. It breaks clean and short the way a 1911 trigger should, which helps newer pistol owners shoot accurately and gives longtime 1911 fans a familiar feel in a lighter package. Follow-up shots come fast because there just isn't much muzzle rise to manage. Capacity is 8+1 from heat-treated steel single-stack magazines, and Browning ships two of them in the box along with an ABS case. Takedown follows the standard 1911 process, so cleaning is straightforward if you've ever owned one, and easy to learn if you haven't. It's a pistol that pulls double duty well, comfortable on the belt all day and genuinely fun when you get to the range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Browning 1911-380 Medallion Pro easy to rack for people with weaker hands?

Yes, and that's one of its strongest selling points. Because it uses a locked-breech, tilting barrel action instead of the blowback design found in most .380 pistols, the recoil spring is noticeably lighter. Combined with the deep slide serrations, most folks who struggle with compact 9mm slides find this one much easier to manipulate.

How big is the 1911-380 compared to a standard 1911?

It's built to roughly 85 percent the scale of the original .45 ACP Model 1911. That puts it at 7.5 inches overall with a 4.25 inch barrel and an empty weight of just 18 ounces thanks to the composite frame with a machined 7075 aluminum subframe. You still get a full grip on it, which is a big part of why it shoots so comfortably.

Does this Medallion Pro model have a rail for a light or laser?

Yes, this particular version (MPN 051969492) includes a Picatinny rail on the dust cover, so you can mount a compact weapon light or laser. That's a nice bonus for a pistol this size, since many .380s don't give you any mounting options at all.

How many magazines come with the Browning 1911-380 Black Label Medallion Pro?

Browning includes two 8-round single-stack magazines with this pistol, along with an ABS case. The magazines are made from heat-treated steel for durability, and spares are readily available if you want to keep a few extra loaded for range trips.
