Description

The APX A1 Full Size RDO is Beretta's most refined take on a duty-ready, optics-capable striker-fired pistol. It picks up where the original APX left off and makes meaningful improvements across the board, with the kind of hands-on refinements that come from real feedback, not a boardroom. The trigger is noticeably better than the original APX, featuring a cleaner break, lighter pull weight, and a short reset that rewards deliberate shooting. Range testing consistently puts the gun in the capable-and-accurate category, and most people find it natural to shoot well with relatively little familiarization time.

APX A1 Full Size Ergonomics and Grip

Beretta redesigned the frame from the grip up on the A1. You get 360-degree texturing placed exactly where your hands make the most contact, a deeper undercut trigger guard that allows a higher grip position, an enhanced beavertail, and three interchangeable backstraps to dial in the fit. The result is a pistol that points naturally and manages recoil better than its predecessor, which matters when you're running it hard at the range or keeping it close for home defense. The polymer frame houses a stainless steel serialized chassis, which also means the serialized component can be moved to a different grip module down the road if you want to change frame size.

APX A1 RDO Slide, Sights, and Optics Compatibility

The slide on this specific model comes with aggressive front and rear cocking serrations for positive grip under any conditions, and Beretta's Aquatech Shield coating on the metal components for solid corrosion resistance. The optics cut accepts a variety of red dot footprints through the use of adapter plates, with compatibility spanning popular options like Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Holosun, Aimpoint Acro, Burris Fastfire, and C-More patterns. Note that the adapter plate is purchased separately. Out of the box, this version ships with a fiber optic front sight that gives you a clean, fast sight picture in normal lighting. The black serrated rear pairs well with it for a solid iron sight setup that works just as well on its own if you're not ready to run glass yet.

The three-slot Picatinny rail under the dust cover gives you room for a light or laser, and the fully ambidextrous controls make it genuinely usable for left-handed shooters without any modifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Beretta APX A1 Full Size RDO come with an optic adapter plate?

No, the pistol ships with a blank cover plate installed over the optics cut so you can use it with iron sights right away. To mount a red dot, you'll need to purchase the appropriate adapter plate separately based on your optic's footprint. Beretta and third-party manufacturers offer plates compatible with popular footprints including Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Holosun, Aimpoint Acro, Burris Fastfire, and C-More patterns.

How does the trigger on the APX A1 compare to the original APX?

The APX A1 received a meaningful trigger upgrade over the original APX. It uses a competition-grade striker spring that delivers a lighter pull weight, a cleaner break, and a shorter reset. Most people who have shot both agree the A1 trigger is a noticeable step up, and it tends to feel better the more rounds you put through it.

What makes the APX A1 Full Size different from the Compact or Carry versions?

The Full Size model runs a 4.25" barrel versus the shorter barrels on the Compact (3.7") and Carry (3.3") variants, giving it a longer sight radius, slightly better ballistics, and a larger grip for higher-capacity magazines. It's the better choice if your priority is home defense, duty, or range use where concealability isn't the main concern. The Full Size also tends to run flatter due to the added mass.

Can the backstraps and grip module be swapped on the APX A1 Full Size?

Yes, the APX A1 Full Size ships with three interchangeable backstraps that let you adjust the grip to better fit your hand size and shooting style. On top of that, the stainless steel serialized chassis inside the frame is removable, meaning the fire-control group can be relocated to a different grip module entirely if you want a different frame size down the road.

Is the fiber optic sight on the APX A1 RDO useful if I don't plan to add a red dot right away?

Absolutely. The fiber optic front sight gives you a fast, bright sight picture that works well in a range of lighting conditions, and it pairs cleanly with the black serrated rear. Many people who own this pistol find the iron sight setup more than adequate for range use and home defense without ever adding glass. It's a genuinely capable iron sight configuration, not just a placeholder.

What rail accessories are compatible with the APX A1 Full Size?

The APX A1 Full Size has a three-slot Picatinny rail under the dust cover that accepts most standard rail-mounted pistol lights and lasers. Popular options like the Streamlight TLR-1, Surefire X300, and similar compact weapon lights mount without any issues. Just verify the light or laser you're looking at specifies Picatinny or universal rail compatibility.
