The A300 Ultima Patrol earned its reputation in 12 gauge, and now Beretta has scaled the whole concept down to 20 gauge. The result is a defensive shotgun that weighs right around 6 pounds, roughly 2 pounds lighter than its big brother, with felt recoil that makes fast follow-up shots and long training sessions a whole lot more pleasant. The gas-operated action does its part too, soaking up recoil while cycling smoothly through a range of loads.
Everything on the Ultima Patrol 20 gauge is set up for quick, sure handling under pressure. The bolt handle and bolt release are extended, the loading port is opened up for faster reloads, and the safety button is oversized and reversible for left-handed use. The 19.1 inch chrome-lined barrel keeps the overall package at a maneuverable 38 inches, and the ghost ring rear sight pairs with a post front for aiming that is quick up close but precise enough for slugs at distance. A 3 inch chamber and Mobilchoke system with an included IC choke round out a barrel setup that handles buckshot patterns well.
The stock ships with a 13 inch length of pull and drops to 12 inches by pulling a spacer, which makes this gun genuinely comfortable for smaller-framed folks or anyone running body armor. Integrated QD sling sockets are molded right in, and the slimmed-down forend wears aggressive texturing where your hand lands. For accessories, you get a factory-installed 7-slot Picatinny rail up top for a red dot plus three M-LOK slots for a light or sling mount, and the receiver plays nice with 1301 Tactical aftermarket rails and optic mounts.
With the 7+1 extended magazine tube secured by an M-LOK compatible barrel clamp, this is a serious home defense setup that more members of the household can shoot well. Modern 20 gauge defensive loads have closed the performance gap considerably, so you are not giving up much while gaining a lighter, softer-shooting gun.
