There are AK-pattern rifles, and then there are milled Bulgarian Arsenals. The SAM7R starts life as a hot-die hammer forged receiver blank at Arsenal's factory in Bulgaria, machined into the kind of solid milled receiver that made the original pattern famous. That extra steel adds a little heft, around 8 pounds, but it also gives you a rifle that feels planted when you shoot it and is built to run for decades. This version wears flat dark earth polymer furniture with a matching FDE 10-round magazine, a sharp change of pace from the usual black-on-black.
The 16.25 inch barrel is cold hammer forged using Steyr tooling and technology, then hard-chrome lined in both the bore and chamber, so it shrugs off steel-cased range ammo and cleans up quick. Up front you get 14x1mm left-hand threads with a removable AK-351 muzzle brake that does a nice job flattening out the already mild 7.62×39 recoil. A bayonet lug and cleaning rod keep the classic look intact, while the side-mounted scope rail lets you clamp on an optic mount when irons alone won't cut it.
Inside, Arsenal installs the FIME Group FM-922EUS enhanced fire control group, one of the better factory AK triggers out there, with a smoother, cleaner break than the gritty pulls a lot of imports ship with. The US-made intermediate-length buttstock gives you a 13.4 inch length of pull, noticeably more comfortable for most American-sized frames than the stubby original spec, and it has a trapdoor compartment for the included cleaning kit.

Yes, the included AK-351 muzzle brake threads onto a 14x1mm left-hand threaded muzzle and can be removed. That opens the door to other AK-pattern muzzle devices that use the same thread pattern. The brake it ships with does a solid job taming muzzle rise for faster follow-up shots.
