There are budget AKs, and then there are rifles built by the people who have been making Kalashnikov-pattern guns since the 1960s. The Zastava ZPAPM70 comes out of the same Serbian factory that produced the military M70 by the millions, and it shows in the details. The stamped receiver is a beefy 1.5mm thick with a bulged front trunnion, the same recipe that earned the Yugo-pattern rifles their reputation for outlasting just about everything else on the rack. Add a cold hammer forged, chrome-lined 16.3 inch barrel and a properly heat-treated bolt carrier group, and you have an AK that is meant to run hard for a very long time.
The dark walnut handguard, stock, and pistol grip give this rifle a classic look that laminate and polymer just cannot match, and the blued steel finish ties it all together. Zastava also added a genuinely useful touch: a bolt hold-open notch on the safety selector, which makes chamber checks and range work a lot more convenient than a standard AK setup. The adjustable front and rear iron sights are ready to zero out of the box, and there is a side mount on the receiver for adding optics when you want more than irons. Chambered in 7.62×39, it feeds from the included 30-round magazine and runs standard AK-pattern mags, so feeding it is never a problem.

You can. The receiver has a side mount for optics, but keep in mind the Yugo-pattern rail sits slightly different than standard AKM rails. You will want a mount made for the Serbian or Yugo M70 pattern, and Zastava sells one that fits correctly.
