The body is machined from aerospace 7075-T6 aluminum, which keeps the weight almost nonexistent, while a Grade 5 titanium thread insert handles the part of the can that takes the most abuse. That titanium mount matters more than it sounds. Aluminum-only cans are known for carbon lock and galled threads after a few range trips, and the titanium insert here is what lets you spin this one off cleanly every time. The whole thing is user serviceable too, so when the rimfire gunk builds up, you take it apart with the included wrenches, clean it, and get back to shooting.
With its .224 inch bore and fixed 1/2×28 direct thread mount, this PipSqueak covers 22LR, 22 WMR, and 17 HMR on just about any threaded rimfire made today. It carries a full-auto rating up to 100 rounds of 22LR and a rapid-fire rating of 25 rounds of 22 Mag, which is more durability than most people will ever ask of a can this size. This raw aluminum version skips the coating entirely for a bright silver, machined-metal look that stands out on blued and stainless hosts alike.
If your goal is the quietest can on the market, there are bigger options for that. The PipSqueak is for the shooter who wants suppressed rimfire fun with basically zero penalty in weight, length, or handling, and at that specific job it is very hard to beat.
It uses a fixed 1/2×28 direct thread mount, which is the standard thread pattern on nearly every threaded rimfire rifle and pistol out there, including the Ruger 10/22 and Mark IV. It is rated for 22LR, 22 WMR, and 17 HMR with a maximum bullet diameter of .224 inch. It is not rated for 223 or 5.56 under any circumstances.
Yes, it is fully user serviceable and ships with wrenches for disassembly. Rimfire ammo runs dirty, so being able to break the can down and scrub the internals is a big deal for keeping performance consistent over thousands of rounds.
The body is 7075-T6 aluminum, one of the strongest aluminum alloys available, and the threads use a Grade 5 titanium insert where wear and carbon buildup hit hardest. That titanium mount prevents the carbon lock and thread galling that plague all-aluminum cans. It even carries a full-auto rating up to 100 rounds of 22LR, though you should keep it under 400 degrees F and reduce round counts on short barrels.
Mechanically they are identical. The raw version skips the Cerakote for a bare silver machined finish, which looks sharp on stainless barrels and gives the can a bit of a custom shop feel. If you prefer a coated exterior, Anechoic also offers it in black and FDE Cerakote.
