The frame is zinc alloy overmolded with polymer, which gives it real weight (just over 24 oz.) without the bulk of steel. The slide is serrated for a solid grip during manipulation, and the adjustable rear sight lets you dial in your zero without needing a gunsmith. Up front is an integrated Picatinny-style accessory rail if you want to run a light or laser. Controls include a slide-mounted ambidextrous thumb safety and an internal locking device, plus a magazine safety that prevents the trigger from functioning without a mag seated.
The DA/SA action is where this pistol earns its spot as a training tool. That first-shot double action followed by single action for subsequent shots mirrors the trigger system on pistols like the Sig P226 and Beretta 92. That makes the FireFly a genuinely practical way to build muscle memory and trigger discipline without burning through centerfire ammo. GSG originally manufactured the Sig Sauer Mosquito for Sig before Sig discontinued the line. When that partnership ended, GSG rebranded and relaunched the design as the FireFly, sold through American Tactical (ATI). The two pistols share the same basic platform, though GSG addressed a number of the reliability concerns that came with the Mosquito over the years.
This model (GERG2210FF) ships with a single 10-round magazine. Additional magazines for the FireFly are available separately from ATI and third-party suppliers, and magazines that fit the Sig Sauer Mosquito are also compatible with this platform.
The DA trigger pull comes in around 12 lbs, while the SA pull is in the 8-9 lb range. Both have a clean break. The heavier DA pull on the first shot is intentional and mirrors how traditional DA/SA duty pistols operate, which is part of what makes this gun useful for training purposes.
