Plenty of AR makers slap an ambi safety on a rifle and call it ambidextrous. American Defense Mfg went further with the UIC, short for Universal Improved Carbine. The billet upper and lower receiver set gives you a left side magazine release paddle, an enlarged bolt catch, and a right side bolt catch and release lever, so you can run reloads and clear malfunctions without pulling your firing hand off the grip. Lefties get a rifle that finally works with them instead of against them, and right handed folks pick up faster manipulations too. A Raptor-LT ambidextrous charging handle rounds out the package.
The 13.9 inch 4150 CMV barrel wears a nitride finish and a 1:7 twist that stabilizes the full range of 5.56 bullet weights, from cheap 55 grain range fodder up to heavier 77 grain loads. The muzzle device is pinned and welded to bring it to a 16 inch overall length, which means you get most of the handling of a shorty without the extra paperwork of a stamped build. The mid-length gas system smooths out the recoil impulse noticeably compared to carbine gas guns of similar size.
This is the value minded carbine in the UIC family, but the parts list reads better than most rifles at this tier. You get an ALG ACT trigger with a clean, crisp break, a premium bolt carrier group with a nitride QPQ finish, ADM's 10 position buffer tube with their HD buffer, a QD endplate, and a competition style flared magwell that makes reloads a little more forgiving. A tension screw between the upper and lower keeps the fit tight with zero receiver slop.
