XS built the R3D 2.0 around a simple idea: your eye should snap to the front sight and stay there. This set does that with a dual-illuminated front post that pairs a Swiss-made tritium vial with the company's photoluminescent orange Glow Dot. In daylight that orange ring pops for a quick reference, and when the lights drop the tritium takes over and glows on its own. The rear is serrated and blacked out with a wide 0.170-inch notch, which leaves plenty of daylight on either side of the front post so you can line things up fast, even when conditions get ugly.
The front sight measures 0.145 inches wide, which is a touch wider than a lot of competing posts, and that extra real estate makes it easy to pick up under stress. XS also stepped up the rear tritium vials versus the original R3D, wrapping them in black PVC rings so the rear dots stay defined without outshining the front. The result is a sight picture that keeps your focus downrange rather than getting lost in three equally bright dots.
These are CNC-machined from solid steel bar stock and finished in BlackNitride, which XS rates at roughly 50 percent more corrosion resistance than black oxide. That matters for a carry gun that lives against your body in heat and sweat. There's also a small ledge on the rear sight so you can rack the slide one-handed off a belt or holster in a pinch. This particular set fits the S&W M&P Shield, M2.0 Shield, Shield Plus, and Shield OR at standard height.
XS reworked the dovetail dimensions on the 2.0 line so installation takes around 50 percent less force than the original R3Ds. You can knock these in with a proper sight pusher or a hammer and brass punch if you know what you're doing, though a pusher makes centering the rear a whole lot easier. Yes. This standard-height set is made for the S&W M&P Shield, M2.0 Shield, Shield Plus, and Shield OR. If your Shield runs an optic that sits down in the slide cut, double-check clearance, but for the standard iron-sight setup these drop right in.
Both use the same Swiss-made tritium vial for low-light glow. The difference is the photoluminescent Glow Dot ring around it: orange gives you a high-contrast reference that stands out against most backgrounds and targets in daylight, while green tends to read a little brighter to some eyes. It comes down to which color your eye picks up fastest.

A sight pusher makes it much easier to center the rear sight and get windage right, so that's the route we'd suggest if you have one.
The tritium vials are self-illuminating and glow in low or no light for years, and XS backs them with a 12-year warranty. The orange Glow Dot up front also charges off ambient light for an extra boost. Tritium naturally dims over its lifespan, so plan on plenty of usable service life out of a fresh set.
