Factory sights on the M&P Shield get the job done, but if you carry this pistol for defense you want something that shows up when it counts. The R3D 2.0 is XS Sights' second-generation night sight set, and it's built around a simple idea: drive your focus to the front sight fast, in any light. The green front dot pairs a Swiss-made tritium vial with XS's photoluminescent Glow Dot, so it soaks up ambient light for a high-contrast aiming point during the day and keeps glowing on its own once the sun's gone. The rear is serrated and blacked out to cut glare and keep your eye where it belongs, with two tritium lamps to help you line things up in the dark.
This generation runs bigger, brighter tritium lamps in the rear compared to the first R3D set, and each rear lamp is ringed in black PVC to sharpen the edges and separate the rear dots from the front. The result is a cleaner sight picture and quicker alignment when the lighting is working against you. The 0.170-inch wide rear notch leaves plenty of daylight on either side of the front post, which speeds things up in a hurry.
The R3D 2.0 sights are CNC machined from solid steel bar stock and wear a BlackNitride finish that shrugs off corrosion and holds up to sweat, humidity, and the daily grind of pocket-to-holster life. XS rates the tritium to glow for around 12 years, so this is a set-it-and-carry-it upgrade. This is the suppressor-height version, tall enough to co-witness with a red dot or clear a threaded barrel.
XS redesigned the dovetail with their EasyPress feature, which cuts the force needed for install by up to 50 percent versus the older R3Ds. A lead-in edge lets the rear sight start into the dovetail before the crush zone takes over, so a sight pusher makes quick work of it. Fits the M&P, M2.0 Shield, Shield Plus, and Shield OR models.
Yes, this is the suppressor-height version, which sits tall enough to co-witness with most miniature red dots or clear a suppressor. That's why the SKU covers the optic-ready Shield OR models along with the standard M&P and Shield Plus. If you're running a dot, these give you a lower-third or absolute co-witness reference depending on your optic.
The front dot uses XS's photoluminescent Glow Dot around a tritium center, so it pulls double duty. In daylight the green Glow Dot gives you a high-contrast aiming point, and it charges up from ambient light so it glows on its own in the dark. The tritium vial keeps it visible in true no-light situations without needing any charge.
