The XS Sights R3D 2.0 is the second generation of one of the most popular notch-and-post tritium sets on the market, built here for Smith & Wesson M&P and M&P M2.0 full-size and compact pistols with standard-height Novak-style rear cuts. The star of the show is the orange front post, which pairs a Swiss-made tritium lamp with XS's photoluminescent Glow Dot. That combo soaks up ambient light and glows on its own after dark, so your eye snaps to the front sight the way it should. Behind it sits a serrated, blacked-out rear with brighter tritium lamps than the original R3D, plus black PVC rings that sharpen the edges of the rear dots and keep them from blending into the front.
The rear notch runs a generous 0.170 inches wide, which is one of the widest in the category. That extra room on either side of the front post makes lining up your shot quicker, especially when the light is bad and you're moving fast. The rear face is serrated and angled slightly downward to cut glare, and there's a ledge machined into the rear sight so you can rack the slide one-handed against a belt or holster if you ever need to.
Every R3D 2.0 is CNC machined from solid steel bar stock and finished in BlackNitride, which XS rates at roughly 50 percent better corrosion resistance than traditional black oxide. That matters for a carry gun that lives against sweat and humidity all summer. It's a set that holds up to real everyday-carry use without looking worn out a year in.
XS redesigned the dovetails on the 2.0 series with a lead-in edge and crush zone, dropping the installation force by about half compared to the first-gen sights. You can run these in with a proper sight pusher or a brass punch and hammer if you're careful. The rear installs from right to left as viewed from behind the slide, and centering it is the trickiest part, so take your time and check your work. The tritium is warranted to glow for 12 years.
This set is cut for standard-height S&W M&P and M&P M2.0 full-size and compact pistols using the Novak-style rear sight. It is not the optic-ready or suppressor-height version, so double check that your slide has a standard rear dovetail before ordering. If you run an M&P Shield, Shield Plus, or an optics-cut slide, XS makes a different R3D 2.0 model for those.
The orange Glow Dot gives you a high-contrast reference in daylight that a lot of folks pick up faster than green, and it stands out against most targets and backgrounds. Both colors use the same Swiss-made tritium lamp behind them, so nighttime glow is identical either way. It comes down to which color your eye grabs quickest, and orange is a favorite for a bright, easy-to-find front post.
