The P228 and P229 are rock-solid compact pistols, but there's a real tradeoff when you want to carry a full-size P226 magazine for extra capacity. Without some kind of adapter, you end up with a magazine sticking out of a grip that was designed for smaller rounds, leaving an awkward gap that can pinch your hands during recoil or magazine changes.
That's where the X-Grip comes in. This polymer sleeve slides over the base of your P226 magazine and snaps into place over the floorplate. No tools needed, and it takes seconds to install. Once it's on, the spacer fills that gap completely, letting you use 15 or 17-round P226 magazines without any compromise to your grip or hand comfort.
The design is based on hand and wrist anatomy, so it doesn't just look right on the gun, it feels right too. The S228 works with factory original German-manufactured P226 magazines that have 43mm floorplates. If you're running newer Mec-Gar or redesigned Sig magazines with 45mm floorplates, you can grind down the front lip slightly and the X-Grip will work just fine once you do. The important thing is getting compatible magazines first. Once installed, the spacer stays put and doesn't shift around during normal use.

The spacer doesn't extend magazine capacity at all. What it does is let you use the same full-size P226 magazines that you probably already own, but now they fit your compact gun without leaving a gap. If you're running a 13-round P228 mag, you stay at 13. Load a 15-round P226 mag with the X-Grip and you get 15 total rounds.
The X-Grip snaps onto the magazine floorplate and stays in place through normal use and recoil. Some users report a slightly loose fit depending on their specific magazine, but the spacer is designed to be removable so you can swap it between magazines if needed. It doesn't lock permanently, which is actually a feature.
The S228 is specifically designed for 9mm P226 magazines only. If you have a P229 in a different caliber, you'd need the appropriate X-Grip adapter for that caliber's magazines. Check the model number before ordering to make sure it matches your gun and magazine.
