If you're running a Winchester XPR short action and want a solid, no-nonsense way to get a scope on it, this EGW 1-piece Picatinny base is the part you want. It's cut specifically for the XPR short action receiver, so you're not fighting with shims or a base that almost fits. The 20 MOA built-in cant is the real selling point here, giving your optic extra elevation adjustment so you can hold on target at longer ranges without running out of travel in your turret.
That 20 MOA angle tilts the rail forward, which frees up internal elevation inside your scope. EGW recommends this version of the rail when you're regularly reaching past 500 yards, so if you've got the XPR set up for long-range target work or open-country hunting, this is the base to grab over a flat 0 MOA option. For shorter distances a 0 MOA rail is fine, but once you start dialing for distance, you'll appreciate having that extra range to work with.
This base is machined from domestic 6061 T6 extruded aluminum, then tumbled, sand blasted, and Type II matte black anodized for a finish that holds up in the field. Full-length Picatinny cross slots run the length of the rail, so you've got plenty of room to position your rings exactly where you want them for proper eye relief. It works with both Picatinny and Weaver style rings, and it comes standard with a bevel on both sides, making it ambidextrous. In many cases the low profile won't interfere with factory iron sights either.
Installation is straightforward. The rail ships with the #8-40 X 1/4 screws and a T-10 bit, so you've got what you need to get it mounted. EGW suggests torquing the screws to 20 inch pounds and adding a drop of blue Loctite to keep everything locked in under recoil. It's worth measuring the hole spacing on your receiver beforehand just to confirm everything lines up before you start.
