This particular model has a 3 inch chamber, so it runs 2-3/4 inch and 3 inch shells only. Winchester does make a separate 3.5 inch chambered version of the SXP Waterfowl Hunter if you want to run the biggest goose loads. For most duck and goose hunting, modern 3 inch steel and bismuth loads get the job done just fine.

The barrel features a hard chrome plated chamber and bore for added durability. The included Invector-Plus chokes are rated for steel, though the general rule is to avoid pushing steel through the Full choke and stick with Modified or more open for those loads.
