Winchester built the SXP around one idea: pump it fast, and it goes bang every time. The Hybrid version takes that proven action and wraps it in gear made for rough weather. The barrel and aluminum alloy receiver wear a Perma-Cote Gray finish that resists rust and scratches far better than plain blued steel, and the chamber and bore are chrome plated so cleanup after a wet morning in the blind is quick and painless. A durable black synthetic stock with an Inflex recoil pad and sling swivel studs rounds out a package that was clearly designed to get used hard, not babied.
The SXP has a reputation for speed, and it comes down to the four-lug rotary bolt and rigid dual action bars. The inertia-assisted pump design uses the motion of the fired shell to give the slide a head start, so the action almost runs itself on follow-up shots. There is no bind, no wiggle, just a short, smooth stroke that keeps you on target when birds are cupped and committed. The drop-out trigger group and reversible crossbolt safety are nice practical touches, especially for left-handed hunters.
The 3.5 inch chamber is the real workhorse feature here. Run light 2.75 inch target loads at the clays range, 3 inch steel over decoys, or full-house 3.5 inch magnums when the big Canadas are dropping in late. The 28 inch back-bored vent rib barrel swings naturally on crossing birds, the TruGlo fiber optic front sight jumps out even in gray dawn light, and the included Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder Invector-Plus chokes let you tune your pattern for the day's work. At around 7 pounds, it carries comfortably through cut corn or timber without wearing you out. For a do-it-all 12 gauge that handles ugly weather and heavy loads without complaint, this one earns its spot in the truck.
Yes. The 3.5 inch chamber handles all three common 12 gauge shell lengths, so you can run cheap target loads one weekend and heavy waterfowl magnums the next. Capacity is 4+1 with 2.75 inch shells, and it decreases slightly with longer hulls.
It ships with three Invector-Plus choke tubes: Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. That covers most upland, waterfowl, and clays work right out of the box, and the Invector-Plus system gives you plenty of aftermarket options if you want a dedicated turkey or extended waterfowl choke later.
It was pretty much built for it. The Perma-Cote Gray finish on the barrel and receiver resists corrosion, the chamber and bore are chrome plated, and the magazine tube is E-coated to fight off wear and moisture. Add the 3.5 inch chamber for heavy steel loads and the synthetic stock, and it is right at home in a wet blind.
The 12 gauge version weighs about 7 pounds thanks to its aluminum alloy receiver, which is light for a 3.5 inch chambered pump. That makes long walks through fields or timber a lot more comfortable, and the included sling swivel studs let you add a sling for the hike in.
