The SXP has earned a reputation as one of the quickest-cycling pump guns you can buy, and the Hybrid Hunter takes that proven action and dresses it for the field. Winchester's inertia-assisted design uses the rearward push of the fired shell to give the slide a head start, so the action practically opens itself and follow-up shots come faster than you'd expect from a pump. This specific model (512364392) has a 3 inch chamber, which handles 2-3/4 and 3 inch shells. That covers everything from clays and dove loads up to steel waterfowl loads. Winchester does make a separate 3-1/2 inch version of the Hybrid Hunter, so double check the model number if you specifically want magnum capability.
It's a true all-arounder. The 28 inch barrel and included Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder chokes make it right at home on ducks, geese, pheasant, and dove, and the Bottomland camo is a natural fit in flooded timber and late-season fields. Swap in an aftermarket turkey choke and it will pull gobbler duty too.
The inertia-assisted action is what the SXP is known for. Recoil from the fired shell starts the slide rearward for you, so the pump stroke feels quick and effortless, and Winchester claims three shots in around half a second is possible. In real-world use, it means smooth cycling and quick second shots on flushing or crossing birds.
Yes. The crossbolt safety is reversible, so it can be switched over for left-handed use. Ejection is still out the right side of the receiver, but that's rarely an issue in practice, and plenty of lefties run SXPs without complaint.
