The SXP action is known for being quick, and this one is no exception. An inertia assisted slide and a rotary bolt with four locking lugs give you a fast, solid cycle with a positive lockup behind every shot. Out of the box you get a TruGlo fiber optic front sight paired with an adjustable rear, which is a genuinely useful setup in low light when deer are actually moving. Prefer a scope or red dot? The aluminum alloy receiver comes drilled and tapped, so mounting optics is a quick job. Sabot slugs through this barrel are capable of tight, repeatable groups at 100 yards, which is all you can ask from a slug gun at this weight.
Winchester kept the whole package no nonsense. The matte black synthetic stock and forearm have textured grip panels that hold on when your gloves are wet, and the non glare finish keeps you from flashing sunlight across a bean field. An Inflex recoil pad takes the edge off heavier slug loads, the bolt wears black chrome that outlasts traditional bluing, and the drop out trigger group makes end of season cleaning painless. The Speed Plug system lets you pull the magazine plug without tools. At 6 pounds 10 ounces with a 43 inch overall length, it handles well in a shooting house or still hunting thick timber. Yes. The aluminum alloy receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so you just need a compatible base and rings to run a scope or red dot. Plenty of hunters top these with a low power scope for slug hunting, while others stick with the factory TruGlo fiber optic front and adjustable rear sights, which work well on their own.
This barrel is made for sabot slugs, and that is where it shines. Sabot loads like Winchester Deer Season XP or Hornady SST are built to engage the rifling and will deliver the best accuracy, with well tuned combos capable of solid groups at 100 yards. Skip rifled Foster-style slugs and birdshot, since a rifled bore is not designed for them and accuracy and fouling both suffer.
Very manageably. The 20 gauge already kicks noticeably less than a 12 gauge slug gun, and the Inflex recoil pad softens what is left. That makes this a comfortable choice for younger hunters, smaller framed folks, or anyone who wants to practice more without getting beat up at the bench.
The tube holds five 2-3/4 inch shells plus one in the chamber. It ships with a three-shot adaptor using Winchester's Speed Plug system, which pops in and out without any tools. That makes switching between full capacity and a plugged magazine quick and painless.
