Description
Ask around any duck blind and you'll hear the same thing about the SX4: it just runs. The heart of this gun is Winchester's Active Valve gas system, which self-adjusts to whatever you feed it, from 2.75 inch practice loads to heavy 3.5 inch magnum steel. That same gas system takes a lot of the sting out of stout waterfowl loads, so a long morning of volume shooting doesn't leave your shoulder wrecked. The Inflex recoil pad helps too, directing the comb down and away from your cheek so follow-up shots come faster.
Built for the Marsh, Dressed for It Too
This version wears Realtree Max-7 from buttstock to muzzle, a marshland pattern designed to blend into reeds, cattails, and flooded timber where wary birds are looking down at you. Underneath the camo, the lightweight aluminum alloy receiver and chrome-plated chamber and bore shrug off the moisture and grime that come with wetland hunting. Winchester also sized the bolt handle, bolt release, and reversible safety button with cold, wet, gloved hands in mind, and the loading port is generous enough that you can top off without pulling a glove.
Patterns That Reach Out
The 28 inch vent-rib barrel is back-bored and pairs with the Invector-Plus choke system to keep shot deformation down and patterns consistent at the distances ducks and geese tend to hang up. Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder tubes come in the box, covering everything from decoying mallards to pass shooting. A TruGlo fiber-optic front sight glows nicely against gray morning skies, and sling swivel studs are already in place for the walk in. With 4+1 capacity and handling that's noticeably slimmer and quicker than the old SX3, this is one of those guns that earns its spot in the boat season after season.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Winchester SX4 Waterfowl Hunter cycle light target loads or just heavy waterfowl shells?
The Active Valve gas system self-adjusts to the load you're running, venting excess gas through ports in the forearm when you step up to magnums. It handles standard 2.75 inch loads up through 3.5 inch magnum shells. Like most gas guns, it may want a short break-in period before it runs the very lightest promo loads flawlessly, so run a box or two through it before relying on featherweight shells.
What choke tubes come with this SX4, and can I add more?
It ships with Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder tubes in Winchester's Invector-Plus pattern. That covers most decoy and pass-shooting situations right away. Since Invector-Plus is a widely supported choke system, aftermarket waterfowl chokes from brands like Carlson's and Patternmaster are easy to find if you want to fine-tune your patterns.
Is the SX4 Waterfowl Hunter friendly for left-handed use?
This model ejects to the right, but the crossbolt safety button is reversible, so a lefty can flip it to the other side. The bolt handle and bolt release are also oversized and easy to reach from either shoulder. If you want full mirror-image controls, Winchester does make a dedicated left-hand SX4 Waterfowl Hunter as a separate model.
How does the SX4 handle recoil with heavy 3.5 inch loads?
Better than most. The gas operation bleeds off a good chunk of the recoil impulse before it ever reaches your shoulder, which is a real advantage over inertia guns and pumps with magnum loads. The Inflex recoil pad adds to that by deflecting the comb down and away from your face, so heavy steel loads feel a lot more manageable over a long hunt.
