Plenty of kids show up to their first high school trap season shooting a hand-me-down field gun that never quite fits. The Winchester SXP Trap Compact fixes that. It takes a legit trap configuration, the raised Monte Carlo comb, the 30 inch vent rib barrel, the proper sight setup, and pairs it with a 13 inch length of pull so smaller-framed folks can mount the gun consistently instead of fighting it. The 30 inch barrel is back-bored for smoother patterns and gives you a nice long sight plane for tracking rising birds. Up top, a 5/16 inch trap rib carries a TRUGLO fiber optic front sight and an ivory mid bead, so checking your alignment before you call for the target becomes second nature. The chamber and bore are hard chrome plated, which shrugs off wear through thousands of shells, and the Invector-Plus system comes loaded with Full, Improved Modified, and Modified tubes to dial in your pattern from the 16 yard line back to the handicap positions. The SXP action itself is famously quick, with an inertia-assisted slide that practically pumps itself as the gun recoils.
Recoil is the thing that wears out new trap shooters, so Winchester fitted this one with an Inflex Technology recoil pad that directs the hit down and away from your cheek. That matters a lot when someone is running multiple rounds of practice in an afternoon. The satin walnut stock and forend wear traditional cut checkering for a sure grip, and the matte black aluminum alloy receiver and barrel keep glare off your sight picture on sunny days.

The Compact version shortens the length of pull to 13 inches, compared to roughly 14 inches on the standard model. Yes. The 3 inch chamber handles heavier field loads, and the included Full, Improved Modified, and Modified chokes cover most upland and dove scenarios. The 30 inch barrel swings smoothly on birds, though it is longer than a typical field gun, so keep that in mind in tight cover.

The Inflex Technology recoil pad directs recoil down and away from your cheek, and the gun's weight of around 7.4 pounds soaks up a good bit of the push. With standard target loads, most smaller-statured folks find it very manageable through multiple rounds of trap.
