Description

Plenty of kids show up to their first high school trap season shooting a hand-me-down field gun that never quite fits. The Winchester SXP Trap Compact fixes that. It takes a legit trap configuration, the raised Monte Carlo comb, the 30 inch vent rib barrel, the proper sight setup, and pairs it with a 13 inch length of pull so smaller-framed folks can mount the gun consistently instead of fighting it. Consistency is everything in trap, and consistency starts with fit.

What Makes the SXP Trap Compact Shoot So Well

The 30 inch barrel is back-bored for smoother patterns and gives you a nice long sight plane for tracking rising birds. Up top, a 5/16 inch trap rib carries a TRUGLO fiber optic front sight and an ivory mid bead, so checking your alignment before you call for the target becomes second nature. The chamber and bore are hard chrome plated, which shrugs off wear through thousands of shells, and the Invector-Plus system comes loaded with Full, Improved Modified, and Modified tubes to dial in your pattern from the 16 yard line back to the handicap positions. The SXP action itself is famously quick, with an inertia-assisted slide that practically pumps itself as the gun recoils.

Built for Long Days at the Club

Recoil is the thing that wears out new trap shooters, so Winchester fitted this one with an Inflex Technology recoil pad that directs the hit down and away from your cheek. That matters a lot when someone is running multiple rounds of practice in an afternoon. The satin walnut stock and forend wear traditional cut checkering for a sure grip, and the matte black aluminum alloy receiver and barrel keep glare off your sight picture on sunny days.

Who the Winchester SXP Trap Compact Fits Best

This is the gun we point parents toward when a kid joins a scholastic clay league, and it works just as well for adults who find standard stocks too long. It handles 2.75 and 3 inch shells, so it can pull double duty in the field too. A whole lot of gun for the money, and a smart way to start a trap career on the right foot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Winchester SXP Trap Compact a good gun for high school trap teams?

It is one of the most popular choices for scholastic clay leagues, and for good reason. The 13 inch length of pull fits growing kids and smaller-framed adults, and the tall Monte Carlo comb sets the head up properly for rising trap targets. The pump action also keeps things simple and reliable for newer competitors.

What is the difference between the SXP Trap Compact and the standard SXP Trap?

The Compact version shortens the length of pull to 13 inches, compared to roughly 14 inches on the standard model. Everything else that makes it a trap gun carries over, including the raised comb, vent rib barrel, fiber optic sights, and Invector-Plus chokes. If a full-size stock feels like a stretch, this is the one to grab.

Can the SXP Trap Compact be used for hunting as well as clays?

Yes. The 3 inch chamber handles heavier field loads, and the included Full, Improved Modified, and Modified chokes cover most upland and dove scenarios. The 30 inch barrel swings smoothly on birds, though it is longer than a typical field gun, so keep that in mind in tight cover.

How does the recoil feel with the 13 inch stock?

Better than you might expect from a 12 gauge pump. The Inflex Technology recoil pad directs recoil down and away from your cheek, and the gun's weight of around 7.4 pounds soaks up a good bit of the push. With standard target loads, most smaller-statured folks find it very manageable through multiple rounds of trap.
