Description

The .300 Winchester Magnum earned its reputation as an elk, mule deer, and open country cartridge for good reason, and the XPR gives it the barrel length it deserves. This full size version wears a 26 inch free-floating chromoly steel barrel, button rifled with a 1:10 twist and finished with a recessed target crown. That extra barrel over a standard 24 inch tube means you squeeze more velocity out of every round, which matters when you are stretching shots across a canyon or a cut bean field.

What Makes the XPR Worth a Look

Winchester built the XPR by borrowing what worked from the Model 70 and streamlining the manufacturing to keep the cost sensible. The receiver is precision machined chromoly steel, drilled and tapped so mounting a scope is quick and painless. The bolt runs on a nickel Teflon coating, so cycling stays slick even after a season of dust, rain, and truck bed miles. Up front of the two position thumb safety sits a bolt release button that lets you cycle unfired rounds with the safety still engaged, a small touch that stand hunters appreciate.

The M.O.A. trigger is the part most people notice first at the counter. It breaks clean at roughly three and a half pounds from the factory with no creep or overtravel to fight, which goes a long way toward wringing accuracy out of a hunting rifle.

Built for Real Hunting Conditions

The matte black synthetic stock has textured grip panels that hang on when your gloves are soaked, and the non-reflective blued Perma-Cote metalwork will not flash sunlight at a wary bull. At about 7.25 pounds bare, it carries fine for a 26 inch magnum. And since .300 Win Mag has some bark, the Inflex recoil pad does honest work pulling the comb down and away from your cheek on the shot. A 3 round detachable box magazine rounds it out, so you can drop a loaded spare in your pocket instead of fumbling loose rounds. Sling swivel studs come standard for your favorite carry setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Winchester XPR come with a scope or iron sights?

No, this rifle ships without any sights or optics. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so all you need is a set of XPR pattern bases and rings to mount the scope of your choice. Most buyers pair it with a 3-9x or 4-12x hunting scope and are set for the season.

Is the barrel on this XPR threaded for a muzzle brake or suppressor?

No, this version of the XPR in .300 Win Mag has a non-threaded 26 inch barrel with a recessed target crown. If you want to add a brake or can, you would need a gunsmith to thread it. The Inflex recoil pad does a solid job taming the .300 Win Mag on its own, though.

How does the M.O.A. trigger feel out of the box?

It comes factory set right around 3.5 pounds and breaks clean with zero take-up and zero creep, which is a big part of why the XPR shoots so well for its class. The trigger housing and internals are polished, hardened carbon steel for durability. Most owners leave it exactly where it comes from the factory.

What is the Winchester XPR in .300 Win Mag best suited for?

This is a natural fit for elk, mule deer, moose, and bear, especially in open country where shots can run long. The 26 inch barrel makes the most of the cartridge's velocity, and the 1:10 twist stabilizes everything from 150 to 200 grain bullets. It works just fine at the bench too, but it is built first and foremost as a hunting rifle.
