Description

Winchester took a fresh look at the rimfire autoloader when they built the Wildcat, and this Midnight SR version might be the best-looking one in the lineup. The TrueTimber Midnight camo stock gives it a dark, muted pattern that blends into low light and timber shadows, while the Carbon Gray Perma-Cote finish on the barrel and receiver shrugs off weather and field wear. At right around 4 pounds, you can carry this rifle all day on a squirrel hunt and barely notice it on your shoulder.

Suppressor Ready Right Out of the Box

The SR in the name means the 16.5-inch button-rifled barrel comes threaded 1/2×28 with a knurled thread protector installed, so you can spin on a can or muzzle device without a trip to the gunsmith. Pair that threaded barrel with subsonic .22 ammo and a suppressor, and you have one of the quietest, most enjoyable setups in the rimfire world. The recessed target crown protects the rifling, and the 1:16 twist handles standard and high-velocity .22 LR loads just fine.

A Wildcat That Feeds From 10/22 Mags

The included 10-round rotary magazine features metal feed lips for durability and a last-round bolt hold-open, which is a feature plenty of rimfire rifles skip. Even better, the Wildcat accepts aftermarket Ruger 10/22-style magazines, so if you already have a drawer full of BX-25s, they will run in this rifle. Dual magazine releases on the bottom and sides make reloads easy from either hand.

Simple to Run, Simple to Clean

Cleaning a semi-auto .22 is usually the worst part of owning one, but the Wildcat's lower receiver drops out with the push of a single button, giving you straight-line access to the bore and action. The striker-fired design delivers a crisp, light trigger pull, and the ghost ring rear sight paired with a ramped post up front gets you on target fast. When you are ready for glass or a red dot, the integral Picatinny rail on top is waiting. For plinking, small game, or teaching a new shooter the ropes, this one earns its spot in the safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Wildcat Midnight SR accept Ruger 10/22 magazines?

Yes, and that is one of the best things about this platform. Beyond the included 10-round rotary magazine, the Wildcat feeds from aftermarket Ruger 10/22-style magazines, including higher capacity options like the BX-25. If you already own 10/22 mags, they will work here.

Is the Winchester Wildcat Midnight SR ready for a suppressor?

It is. The 16.5-inch barrel comes threaded in the standard 1/2×28 pattern used by nearly every rimfire suppressor on the market, and a knurled thread protector keeps the threads clean when you are running it bare. Just remove the protector, spin on your can, and you are set.

How hard is the Wildcat to clean compared to other semi-auto .22s?

This is where the Wildcat really stands apart. The entire lower receiver assembly drops free with the push of a single button, no tools needed, giving you clear access to the bore and action. It makes routine maintenance far quicker than most rimfire autoloaders.

What is this rifle best suited for?

At roughly 4 pounds with a 34.75-inch overall length, it is a natural fit for small game hunting, plinking, and training newer marksmen. The ghost ring sights are quick to pick up, and the integral Picatinny rail lets you add a scope or red dot when you want more precision. The dark TrueTimber Midnight camo also makes it a solid choice in the field.
