It uses a traditional internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate rather than a detachable mag. Capacity is 5 rounds of .30-06, and the floorplate is engraved with the Super Grade name. To unload quickly, just drop the floorplate and the rounds fall free.
The Model 70's Pre-64 style action uses a large claw extractor that grips the cartridge rim as soon as it leaves the magazine and controls it all the way into the chamber and back out. That means reliable feeding at any angle and any bolt speed, and you can extract an unfired round even if it never fully chambered. It's a big part of why this action has such a loyal following among big game hunters.
Maple is a hard, dense wood and the gloss finish adds a protective layer, so it will handle honest field use just fine.
