The slide stop is one of those small 1911 parts nobody thinks about until it quits, usually at the worst possible moment. It takes a relentless beating every time the slide cycles, and a worn or cheap one can lead to failures to lock back, premature wear, or an outright dead gun. The Wilson Combat Bullet Proof Slide Release was designed to put that worry behind you.
This is the all stainless version (part number 414S) built specifically for 1911 pistols chambered in .45 ACP. Wilson machines these from solid stainless steel bar stock and leaves extra metal in the high-stress critical areas where lesser parts crack or peen over time. The real difference, though, is the steel itself. Wilson did a lot of field testing to land on a slide stop material that, once properly heat treated, holds up to abuse far better than most factory parts. That's where the Bullet Proof name comes from, and it's earned.
You also get the practical touches that make a slide stop nice to live with day to day. There's a built-in detent that helps hold it in place and makes installation easier, a serrated top that gives your thumb solid purchase whether you're locking the slide back or dropping it on a fresh mag, and a maximum tolerance shaft that reduces slop and helps the part wear in evenly.
It's designed as a drop-in component for properly built 1911s, so in most guns it goes right in with no fuss. That said, 1911 tolerances vary quite a bit from one maker to the next, so occasionally a little hand fitting is needed to get it perfect. If you're not comfortable doing that yourself, a gunsmith can sort it out in a few minutes.

You get the Wilson Combat Bullet Proof slide stop itself, packaged in Wilson Combat factory packaging. It does not include a slide stop spring or any other small parts, so reuse your existing spring during installation.
The serrations on top give your thumb better grip for locking the slide back or releasing it, which is especially handy on a carry or competition gun. The built-in detent helps keep the part seated during use and makes installation a little easier. The maximum tolerance shaft also helps reduce slop and wear over time.
