The Sorix Field is Weatherby's walnut-stocked take on their increasingly popular Sorix semi-auto platform, and it's a genuinely attractive shotgun with real hunting chops behind it. The 20 gauge chambering with a 28-inch barrel and 3-inch chamber gives you a versatile setup whether you're walking fields behind a dog or setting up in a blind. Weighing in right around 6.5 pounds, it carries well and swings naturally on moving birds. The inertia recoil system has gone through years of spring rate tuning to reliably cycle a wide range of loads, from lighter upland shells to full-power magnum loads, without needing the gas system maintenance that comes with gas-operated guns.
The Field version of the Sorix trades camo patterns and synthetic stocks for Grade II walnut, giving you that traditional look without sacrificing any of the platform's practical features. The receiver and barrel still wear a durable Cerakote finish to hold up in the field, and the walnut stock has textured touch points for grip and a soft cheekpiece for comfort during longer shooting sessions. Adjustable stock shims are included so you can dial in cast and drop to actually fit the gun to your face, which matters more than most people realize. The stepped vent rib and LPA fiber optic front sight keep your eye naturally aligned for fast target acquisition on flushing birds.
Weatherby put some real thought into the ergonomics here. The competition-cut loading port makes it noticeably easier to top off quickly, and the oversized bolt release, charging handle, and safety work smoothly even with gloves on. The Shift System is worth mentioning for left-handed hunters: a cut on the left side of the receiver lets you swap the charging handle to the opposite side and reverse the safety, giving lefties a much more natural experience without buying a dedicated left-hand model. The receiver is drilled and tapped with 8-40 holes if you want to mount a red dot down the road.
The Sorix ships with five Crio Plus choke tubes (cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified, and full), a choke wrench, and a carrying case for the tubes. The Crio Plus pattern is the same thread used by Benelli, so aftermarket choke selection is wide open. Every Sorix is manufactured in Italy and goes through final inspection at Weatherby's Sheridan, Wyoming facility before it ships.

Weatherby spent considerable time tuning the spring rates on the Sorix's inertia system to broaden the load range it cycles reliably. It handles standard hunting loads and 3-inch magnums very well. Like most inertia guns, it performs most consistently with field-weight hunting loads rather than very light target or practice shells, so keep that in mind if you plan to run light 7/8 oz. loads.

A machined cut on the left side of the receiver allows you to move the charging handle to the left side without any tools, and the safety can be reversed as well.
