The Walkers FireMax is the top of the FireMax family, built on more than three decades of Walker's hearing protection know-how. It leans on Walker's Sound Activated Compression to clamp down on the sharp impulse noise of gunfire while letting you keep hearing what's going on around you. The whole package sits in a slim, low-profile shell that stays out of the way when you're cheeking a rifle stock, so you're not fighting your gear to get a clean shot.
Digital omni-directional microphones feed a high-performance audio circuit with a fast reaction time, so voices and steel hits come through clear and balanced through the full dynamic range HD speakers. You get four selectable frequency modes: Universal, Clear Voice, High-Frequency, and Power Boost. Universal and Power Boost handle general awareness, Clear Voice sharpens conversation and range commands, and High-Frequency picks up higher-pitched sounds like steel impacts. Everything is run through silent, soft-touch digital buttons, so you're not clicking through settings while others are trying to concentrate.
The rubber Tacti-Grip headband and cooling gel ear pads are the features people mention most, and for good reason. The gel pads cut heat buildup on warm days and stay comfortable through long sessions, which matters when you're on the line for hours. Power comes from a 2000mAh rechargeable lithium battery that tops off through a USB-C port, giving you roughly 150 hours per charge and doing away with the constant hunt for disposable batteries. An IP54 rating adds water and dust resistance, and the auto shut-off helps preserve the charge when you forget to power them down.
With a 20 dB NRR, these are a strong pick for indoor and outdoor range time, training, competition, and plinking. They also pair with the FireMax walkie talkie for team communication when you want it.
The FireMax runs on a 2000mAh rechargeable lithium battery that delivers roughly 150 hours of use per charge. It tops off through a standard USB-C port using the included cable, so you can charge it the same way you charge a phone. The auto shut-off feature helps stretch your charge if you forget to power the muffs down.
You get Universal, Clear Voice, High-Frequency, and Power Boost. Universal and Power Boost handle general ambient sound and awareness, Clear Voice sharpens conversation and range commands, and High-Frequency helps you pick up higher-pitched sounds like steel impacts. You switch between them with the silent soft-touch buttons, so you can fine-tune what you hear for the environment you're in.
Comfort is one of the most praised aspects of these muffs. The cooling gel ear pads cut down on heat buildup, and the rubber Tacti-Grip headband keeps them stable without pinching. Many range users find them comfortable enough for hours at a time, and the slim low-profile shell stays out of the way when you shoulder a rifle.
A 20 dB NRR paired with Walker's Sound Activated Compression handles the impulse noise of most range work, indoors and out. The electronic circuit clamps down fast on gunfire while still letting you hear conversation and commands. For very loud indoor ranges or magnum calibers, some shooters like to double up with foam plugs underneath for extra protection.
