The Walther PDP Pro SD Full-Size is what happens when Walther takes an already strong platform and keeps pushing. The base PDP earned its reputation quickly after its 2021 release, praised for its trigger feel, grip ergonomics, and optics-ready design. The Pro SD builds on that foundation with a factory-threaded 5.1" barrel in the standard 1/2×28 pitch, an aluminum magwell, the step-up Dynamic Performance Trigger, and three 10-round magazines with aluminum base pads included. That's a meaningful collection of upgrades you'd otherwise have to source and install yourself.
Walther's Dynamic Performance Trigger is the headline upgrade over the standard PDP. Where the base model's Performance Duty Trigger is already well-regarded, the Dynamic Performance version reduces take-up noticeably and uses a flat-face metal trigger shoe. The pull weight sits around 5.6 lbs with a very short .2" travel spec, keeping it duty-rated while still delivering a crisp, clean break and fast reset. It's the kind of trigger that feels like an aftermarket upgrade without paying for one.
The SuperTerrain serrations on this pistol are worth understanding before you hold one. Rather than cutting serrations into the slide like most manufacturers do, Walther's design actually protrudes above the slide surface. That means more surface area for your hands to bite into, which pays off during press checks, malfunction drills, or anytime your hands are wet or gloved. The optics-ready slide accepts a wide range of red dot footprints via adapter plates, and Walther can send you the appropriate plate for your optic upon request. The Performance Duty grip texture uses a tetrahedron pattern that grips firmly without being abrasive against skin or clothing during extended carry or range sessions.
The included aluminum magwell is a genuine practical addition, not just a cosmetic one. It funnels magazines in faster and pairs specifically with the aluminum base pad magazines included in the box. The full-size 9mm frame comes in at 8.6" overall with a 27.5 oz loaded weight, and the Picatinny accessory rail under the dust cover makes it straightforward to add a light. Three-dot white adjustable sights are installed from the factory.
The 5.1" barrel is threaded in the standard 1/2×28 pitch, which is the most common pattern for 9mm muzzle devices in the U.S. This means you'll have a wide selection of suppressors, compensators, and muzzle brakes to choose from without needing a barrel adapter.
The Dynamic Performance Trigger in the Pro SD reduces the amount of take-up compared to the standard Performance Duty Trigger and uses a flat-face metal trigger shoe rather than a curved polymer one. Both triggers measure around 5.6 lbs pull weight by design to keep them duty-rated, but the DPT's feel is noticeably crisper with a shorter reset. It's the same trigger Walther sells as a separate upgrade for standard PDP models.
The PDP Pro SD uses Walther's proprietary optic cut, so you'll need an adapter plate to mount most red dots. Models produced from 2022 onward use the updated 2.0 slide cut with recoil lugs for a more secure optic mount. Popular options include the Holosun 507C X2, Trijicon RMR, and the Holosun SCS-PDP, which is purpose-built for the PDP 2.0 cut and mounts directly without a plate. Yes, the three 10-round magazines that come with the PDP Pro SD include aluminum base pads that are designed to work with the included aluminum magwell. If you purchase additional PDP magazines separately, make sure they include compatible base pads, as standard flat-base PDP magazines may not seat or drop properly with the magwell installed.
The full-size frame and 5.1" barrel make the Pro SD well-suited for home defense and serious range work where concealability is less of a priority. Keep in mind the aluminum magwell adds some bulk at the base of the grip, which can affect fit in some tighter IWB designs.
