The PDP Pro SD Compact is what you get when Walther decides not to leave anything on the table. Starting with the full-size Pro SD platform and fitting it into a compact frame, the result is a pistol that carries the 18-round capacity of a duty gun with a slide length that's much easier to manage. The two-tone FDE polymer frame with black slide gives it a distinctive look, and the Performance Duty texture on the grip is genuinely impressive for a polymer pistol. It uses a tetrahedron-shaped stippling pattern that grips without chewing your hands up over a long range session.
The "SD" stands for Schalldampfer, the German word for silencer, and that tells you exactly what this pistol is built around. The 4.6" barrel is threaded 1/2×28 TPI from the factory, and Walther includes an extra recoil spring assembly specifically for running a suppressor. The slide is optics-ready with a generously machined pocket that accommodates a wide range of micro red dot plates, and the dovetail cuts are Glock-pattern, which means the aftermarket for sights is wide open. The Dynamic Performance Trigger is the upgraded flat-face unit found on the Pro SD line, with a well-defined wall, clean break, and a reset that's tight enough to keep up with fast shooting. Yes, the slide is factory-milled with an optics-ready pocket that accepts a wide variety of micro red dot mounting plates. The dovetail cuts use a Glock-pattern, so there is a large selection of aftermarket sights and plates available. Walther can also provide an optic plate if you need one. The updated optic cut includes machined-in recoil lugs for a more secure optic mount.
The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 TPI, which is the standard pitch for 9mm suppressors and compensators in the US market. A thread protector is included in the box. Walther also includes an additional recoil spring assembly designed specifically for the increased backpressure of shooting suppressed.
The Pro SD version adds several meaningful upgrades over the standard PDP: a factory-threaded barrel, an aluminum flared magwell, the upgraded Dynamic Performance Trigger (flat-face with reduced take-up), and three magazines instead of two. The Tenifer-finished carbon steel slide with SuperTerrain serrations is also part of the Pro SD package. It is essentially a fully spec'd-out PDP that saves you from sourcing and installing those upgrades separately.
The PDP Pro SD Compact ships with three 18-round magazines and holds 18+1 rounds in 9mm. The compact frame on this model uses full-size PDP magazines, which is one of the appeals of this configuration. Standard PDP magazines are compatible and widely available.
The compact frame and 8.1" overall length make it manageable for carry use, and the grip texture and magwell give it a natural, positive feel in the hand. The 18-round magazine capacity is on par with full-size duty pistols, which is a genuine advantage for a home defense setup. For concealed carry, the slide width of 1.34" is something to consider depending on your carry method and holster setup, but plenty of people carry this configuration daily.
The pistol ships with 3-dot white sights that are functional but basic. Because the PDP uses Glock-pattern dovetail cuts, the aftermarket for replacement sights is extensive. Popular upgrades include suppressor-height tritium night sights from XS Sights, Trijicon HD, and AmeriGlo, which are especially useful when running a red dot or suppressor. If you plan to mount an optic, suppressor-height sights are the way to go.
