Description

The Simonich Gunner grips carry real credibility in the 1911 world. This design was originally created by renowned knife maker Rob Simonich and was selected for use by the Marine Corps Special Operations Command. Today, VZ Grips manufactures these grips with the blessing of Simonich's family and pays royalties to ensure the design stays true to the original.

What sets these grips apart is the construction and texturing. They're machined from G10 fiberglass, a material that laughs in the face of harsh conditions. The laminate won't absorb moisture, shrugs off impacts, and stays stable even through temperature swings. Every set comes with CNC-machined texturing that's then hand-finished to create a uniform pattern depth. The result is that distinctive golf ball style dimpling that gives you genuine bite without being uncomfortable in your hand.

Designed for Command and Control

These grips fit full-size Government and Commander model 1911s from all the major manufacturers, and they're not cut for ambidextrous safeties. The texture cuts sharper and cleaner than you'd get on traditional checkered wood, which means better control when you need it most. Guys use these for everything from range days to competition to tactical work.

Built and Finished in the USA

VZ makes these grips custom and hand-finishes them right here in America using American materials. You're looking at a grip that holds up to real use and has the finish quality to back it up. The black finish is clean and professional without being flashy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Simonich Gunner grips and other VZ grip models?

The Simonich Gunner is the original design from legendary knife maker Rob Simonich and features the iconic golf ball dimpling pattern. Other VZ models like the Operator line use different texturing patterns. The Gunner style provides a particularly aggressive texture that works well for tactical use and competition shooting.

Will these grips work on my 1911?

They fit full-size Government and Commander model 1911s from manufacturers like Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Rock Island Armory, and Nighthawk. They're not cut for ambidextrous safeties, so check your safety configuration first. If you need custom cuts or different frame sizes, VZ offers additional options.

How aggressive is the texture?

The golf ball texturing is genuinely aggressive and provides excellent bite for control, but it's hand-finished to avoid being uncomfortable to grip. Some users prefer a less aggressive feel, but if you want real texture that works when you need traction, these deliver without being sharp or painful.

Are these grips tough enough for heavy use?

G10 is one of the toughest grip materials available. It won't absorb moisture, resists impact, and stays stable through temperature extremes. Combined with the USA-made construction and hand-finishing, these grips are built for serious use whether you're training hard or in the field.
