The Viridian HS1 FDE is the first hand stop laser ever made, and it solves a real problem for AR owners: how to add laser capability without cluttering your rail with separate accessories and wire runs. This thing mounts directly to M-LOK with just two screws and feels like it belongs there.
The design is deceptively simple. Grab your handguard like you normally would, and the pressure-activated button fires up the red laser automatically. No special technique required, no extra controls to think about under stress. The laser activates as long as you're gripping it, and shuts off when you release. That pressure activation makes it work with multiple grip styles, which is exactly what you want on a rifle you might use in different positions.
The red beam is rated to reach about 100 yards in daylight and extends to 2 miles in darkness. A small bore-to-laser offset of roughly 0.75 inches means your zero stays consistent across different distances without major adjustments. Windage and elevation are both user-adjustable with the included Allen wrench, so dialing it in takes just a few minutes. At 25 yards you can get a solid zero for home defense work, or push it to 50+ yards if you're setting up for longer-range capability.
Everything here weighs almost nothing. The FDE polymer construction is solid and holds zero through hundreds of rounds without walking. A single CR1/3N battery powers it for about 1.5 hours of continuous use, which is enough for most shooting sessions or training days. No wires running down your rail, no external switches competing for space, no bulk added to your rifle. The HS1 replaces a hand stop you probably wanted anyway, so you're not adding extra weight, just trading up.
The laser turns on automatically when you grip the handguard and activate the pressure-sensitive button. There's no separate switch to flip. Let go and it shuts off. This pressure activation works with any common grip style, whether you're holding it normally or in a different shooting position.
Yes, the HS1 mounts directly to M-LOK attachment points on any AR handguard. Some rifles with integrated hand stops might need minor modifications to clear the laser, but most M-LOK equipped rifles mount it straight away with no changes.
The HS1 uses a single CR1/3N battery, which gives you about 1.5 hours of runtime when the laser is constantly on. Use a wrapped battery to prevent short circuiting, and you'll get plenty of range time or training sessions per charge.
The HS1 mounts low enough that most suppressors won't interfere with the laser beam. The bore-to-laser offset is only about 0.75 inches, so your point of impact stays accurate. If you run an unusually large suppressor, Viridian offers a Picatinny adapter that mounts the HS1 even lower.
