Anybody who has wrestled an upper into a bench vise knows the drill. Squeeze too hard and you crush or scratch the receiver, go too soft and it twists loose the second you lean on the barrel nut. The JP Enterprises Universal Vise Clamps were built in JP's own custom shop to solve exactly that, giving you a solid, repeatable grip for the high-stress jobs like barrel installs and hand guard work.
The jaws capture the receiver by grabbing the top rail and the receiver lugs, so clamping pressure goes where the receiver is strong instead of pinching the walls. The lug-side piece has different cutouts at each end to fit the front pivot pin lug of either a large or small receiver, which is why one set covers both platforms. Flip the orientation and you move from an AR-15 to an AR-10 without buying a second tool.
Unlike blocks that pin into the takedown pin bosses and need an action bar to avoid damage, these grip the receiver directly and essentially turn your vise into a stationary action wrench. Builders also like them for jobs a reaction rod can't touch, like PCC and 9mm uppers that have no barrel extension or lugs to index against. The two pieces together run about half an inch thick, so factor that into your vise opening.
Most JP aluminum parts get a hard coat anodize, but these clamps are given a softer cosmetic anodize on purpose so they won't scratch the receiver they're holding.
