The Taran Tactical Firepower basepad kit is a reliable upgrade for anyone running full-size M&P pistols who wants more rounds on tap without swapping magazines. You get a solid aluminum platform machined right here in the country that transforms your stock magazines into competition-ready performers.
What makes this basepad work is its approach to real-world shooting. The kit adds weight to the bottom of your magazine, which helps empty mags drop free during speed reloads. Taran designed it with their patented push-pin system, so you can swap it on and off the magazine without tools between stages or for cleaning. A simple push down on the pin, slide the pad on, then lock it up. One-piece construction means there's nothing to lose in the field.
You'll pick up 6 extra rounds with 9mm or 5 with .40 S&W, bringing full-size magazines to either 23+1 or 20+1 respectively. The design works on any full-size M&P handgun, but keep in mind it's built specifically for full-size models, not compact frames. The kit ships with an upgraded spring that works with your factory magazine follower. The hard anodized finish holds its color through heavy use and won't flake off like cheaper options.
Taran Tactical built a reputation in competition circles because their products work. This basepad comes endorsed by multi-time world and national champions like Jerry Miculek and Julie Golob. The machining is crisp, the tolerances are tight, and the design fits the USPSA 140mm gauge for competition use. You're not just getting a capacity bump here, you're getting a piece of kit that's been tested at the highest levels of the sport.
No. The Firepower kit uses Taran's push-pin design that requires no tools at all. You just push the pin down, slide the basepad onto your magazine, and push the pin back up to lock it in place. The whole process takes seconds and you can do it right at the range or in your kit bag.
The kit comes with an upgraded 10% stronger spring, which is what we'd recommend using. However, the basepad is designed to work with your stock spring if needed. The extra power spring gives you better reliability with the higher capacity and faster mag drops.
No, this basepad is built exclusively for full-size M&P pistols in 9mm and .40 S&W. It will not fit compact or subcompact frame magazines, so double-check your magazine body before ordering.
Yes. The Firepower basepad fits the USPSA 140mm magazine gauge and is used by competitive shooters at the highest levels. Just verify it with your magazine before your match since manufacturing tolerances on mass-produced mags can vary slightly.
