The TROY Ambidextrous Bolt Release solves one of the oldest annoyances on the AR-15 platform: reaching all the way over to the left side of the receiver every time you need to send the bolt home. Instead of a full parts swap, this is an extended lever that fastens right onto your factory bolt catch and reaches down into the trigger guard, so your right index finger can hit it without breaking your grip. Righties get a faster reload, lefties finally get a control that works the way it should, and everybody gets that one-handed release and hold-open they've been wanting.
It is machined from hardened aircraft aluminum with a matte black anodized finish, so it blends in and looks like it came on the rifle from the factory. Folks who have run it alongside the popular BAD lever tend to point out that it stays put and doesn't wiggle, thanks to a center set screw that locks the lever down. There is knurling worked into the lever face too, which keeps your finger from sliding off when you're moving fast or shooting prone. It stays out of the way during normal handling and only comes into play when you want it.
Installation is about as simple as AR upgrades get. The lever attaches to your standard bolt catch using the included Allen wrench, no gunsmithing and no permanent changes to the lower. Most people have it on in a few minutes. One tip from the field: take your time snugging down that set screw so you don't drop it, and add a little thread locker if you want extra insurance against it backing out.
