TriStar includes Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes with a wrench, covering close flushes, mid-range crossers, and longer pokes. A manual E-Z Load magazine cut-off lets you swap the chambered shell without cycling another from the tube, handy when a duck spread calls for a load change. A removable shot plug is included for migratory bird hunts.
TriStar backs the Viper G2 line with a five-year warranty, and the platform is endurance tested to 5,000 rounds. At around six pounds it carries easily on long walks, and it's the kind of gun that stays useful even after a young hunter grows into a full-size stock. For the money, it's tough to find a softer introduction to wingshooting.
It's one of the better options out there for that job. The 13 inch length of pull fits smaller frames properly, and the gas-operated action combined with the naturally light-kicking 20 gauge keeps recoil very manageable. That combination helps new hunters build good habits instead of a flinch.
Yes, the gas system is designed to run everything from light 2.75 inch target loads up to heavy 3 inch hunting loads interchangeably. Like most gas guns, it may want a short break-in period before it runs the very lightest promo loads flawlessly, so put a few boxes of standard ammo through it first.
The barrel uses Beretta/Benelli Mobil threads, which is one of the most widely supported choke patterns on the market. TriStar ships it with Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes plus a wrench, and aftermarket options for turkey, waterfowl, and clays are easy to find.
Plenty of smaller-framed adults choose this model specifically for the shorter 13 inch length of pull and lighter overall weight. Taller shooters with longer arms will likely find it a bit cramped, and would be better served by the full-size Viper G2 with its standard-length stock.
