There's a reason old timers still talk about the 16 gauge. It carries like a 20 and hits like a 12, and TriStar built the Trinity II LT to take full advantage of that. The LT in the name stands for the lightweight aluminum alloy receiver, which keeps this double easy to tote through a full day in the field. TriStar didn't cut corners to get there either. The 28-inch barrels are built on a steel mono-block with chrome-lined bores and a vent rib topped with a fiber optic front sight that stays visible in gray-sky weather. Chambers are 2.75 inches, which suits the 16 gauge just fine since nearly all factory loads for it are 2.75 inch anyway. You get five interchangeable Beretta/Benelli Mobil-style choke tubes covering Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full, so you can set the gun up for anything from close-flushing quail to late-season roosters. A single selective trigger and top tang safety with barrel selector keep the controls simple and familiar.
The Turkish walnut stock and forend wear a semi-gloss finish with clean checkering, and the engraved silver receiver against blued barrels gives it the look of a gun that costs a good deal more. A recoil pad rounds out the package, though the 16 gauge is already a pleasant shooter in a gun this size.
Sixteen gauge over/unders are getting harder to find, and most that exist carry premium price tags. For upland hunters who want something classic without babying a safe queen, this one earns its keep.
It uses the Beretta/Benelli Mobil choke pattern, one of the most common thread patterns out there, so aftermarket tubes are easy to find. Five tubes come in the box: Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full, along with a choke box and wrench. That set covers everything from skeet fields to late-season upland birds.
This model uses extractors, which lift the spent hulls so you can pluck them out by hand rather than flinging them into the grass. Plenty of upland hunters and reloaders prefer extractors since you never lose a hull. It pairs with a single selective trigger, so you pick which barrel fires first using the tang-mounted selector.
The LT swaps the steel receiver for a lightweight aluminum alloy frame, which trims noticeable weight for long walks in the field. TriStar reinforces the alloy with steel inserts at the contact points, so the wear surfaces hold up like a heavier gun. The result is a double that carries easier all day without giving up durability where it counts.
The 16 gauge version has a 2.75 inch chamber, which matches essentially every factory 16 gauge load on the shelf since 3 inch shells are not standard for this gauge. The chrome-lined barrels handle regular field and target loads without issue. As with most fixed-breech doubles, check your ammo box for nontoxic shot recommendations if you plan to run steel through tighter chokes.
