It's a popular pick for exactly that. The .410 bore produces very light recoil, and at roughly 6.2 pounds the gun is easy to carry and swing. Just keep in mind the .410 throws a smaller payload, so it rewards good fundamentals, which is part of why it's such a great teaching gauge.
