The Matrix is TriStar's first inertia-driven semi-auto, and they picked a good system to build around. Inertia actions run cleaner than gas guns because powder residue stays out in the barrel instead of getting pumped back into the receiver. That means less scrubbing after a muddy morning in the marsh and fewer worries about the gun cycling when it's cold, wet, and you haven't touched a cleaning rod in a while. It also tends to be more forgiving across a range of loads, so you can shoot light field loads at doves and step up to 3 inch magnums for ducks without babying it.
This version wears Realtree Max-7 camo from butt pad to muzzle, which is exactly what you want when wary late-season birds are picking apart every hide. At 6.8 pounds, the 20 gauge Matrix is a genuinely pleasant gun to tote across a cut cornfield or up into the timber. The 28 inch chrome-lined vent rib barrel gives you a smooth swing on crossing birds, and the red fiber optic front sight stands out fast in low light when ducks are dropping in at first shooting light.
TriStar includes three Beretta/Benelli Mobil-style choke tubes, Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full, so you're covered from decoying birds to longer passing shots. The Mobil pattern also means aftermarket choke options are everywhere if you want to fine-tune for turkey or waterfowl loads. A crossbolt safety sits where your trigger finger expects it, the synthetic stock shrugs off weather and briars, and a rubber recoil pad takes the edge off heavier loads. A shot plug comes in the box for bird seasons that call for it. Add in TriStar's reputation for delivering a lot of shotgun for the money, and the Matrix makes a strong case as a do-it-all camo 20 gauge for waterfowl, upland birds, and everything in between.

Most folks find the tradeoff for a lighter-carrying gun well worth it.
