It holds six rounds of .45 Colt, and thanks to the transfer bar safety system, you can load all six chambers rather than resting the hammer on an empty one like the originals required. That is a meaningful upgrade over a true period gun, and it does not change the look or the feel of the action one bit.

This model is chambered in .45 Colt, sometimes called .45 Long Colt, which is the original cartridge for the 1873 pattern. It is not chambered for .45 ACP, so stick with .45 Colt ammunition. Standard pressure cowboy loads are a great match and keep recoil mild.
These are built by F.lli Pietta in Italy for Traditions Performance Firearms. Pietta has been producing single action reproductions for decades and has a strong reputation for fit and finish on this design. It carries the Traditions name but the manufacturing pedigree is all Pietta.
Yes. Unlike original 19th century single actions that needed to be carried with the hammer down on an empty chamber, this revolver uses a transfer bar safety system. The hammer cannot contact the firing pin unless the trigger is fully pulled, so a full six-round cylinder is fine.
It is a natural fit. The 5.5 inch barrel balances well and draws cleanly, the fixed sights are match-typical for the sport, and the classic four-click action feels right at home on a cowboy stage. The nickel and white grip combo also looks fantastic with period leather and match attire.
