The TR Imports Alpha 2 is built around what matters most in a field gun: reliability when you need it, and enough versatility to handle whatever you throw at it. Chambered in 20 gauge with a 3-inch chamber and a 26-inch chrome-lined vent rib barrel, this semi-auto runs on an improved inertia action paired with TR Imports' Sure-Loc bolt system, which locks up positively on every shot. Unlike gas-operated designs that collect fouling and demand frequent cleaning, the inertia system stays cleaner longer and keeps things simple with fewer moving parts.
The 20 gauge configuration hits a sweet spot for upland hunters. It's noticeably lighter and faster to swing than a comparable 12 gauge, and the 26-inch barrel is an ideal length for tight timber and flushing birds. The OD green Cerakote finish covers both the barrel and receiver, giving the gun a low-profile look that blends naturally in the field while protecting the metal from moisture, scrapes, and the general abuse that comes with hard use. The fixed Old School Camo synthetic stock is tough, weather-resistant, and won't warp or swell after a wet day in the marsh. A thick, soft recoil pad keeps the 20 gauge's already-mild recoil comfortable over a long day.
TR Imports paid attention to the details that matter most when conditions get rough. The bolt release and bolt handle are both oversized, making them easy to work even with cold, gloved hands. The enlarged feed port helps with smooth, confident loading. Fiber optic sights up front give you a bright, fast sight picture whether you're swinging on a rooster or trying to pick up a clay. The 4+1 capacity gives you five shells at the ready, and the gun comes standard with three Crio+ pattern choke tubes in Cylinder, Modified, and Full, so you're covered for everything from close-in woodcock to longer passing shots.
The Sure-Loc system is TR Imports' proprietary bolt lockup design that ensures the bolt fully seats and locks on every shot, eliminating the partial-lockup 'click' you can sometimes get with other inertia guns. It gives you a more consistent, positive firing cycle. Combined with the improved inertia action, it also means there are fewer components exposed to gas fouling compared to gas-operated shotguns.
It's genuinely well-suited to it. The 20 gauge configuration keeps weight down, and the 26-inch barrel is a great all-around length for swinging on flushing birds in the field. The included choke tubes cover you for everything from tight CYL flushes to Modified for passing shots, and the OD green Cerakote finish blends naturally in most hunting environments.
The Alpha 2 uses the Crio+ thread pattern for its choke tubes. It ships with three tubes in Cylinder, Modified, and Full, which covers the most common shooting scenarios right out of the box. Aftermarket Crio+ compatible tubes are widely available from most major choke manufacturers.
Cerakote is a ceramic-based finish known for excellent corrosion and abrasion resistance, and it performs well in the kind of wet, muddy conditions you run into duck hunting or hunting in the rain. On the Alpha 2, both the barrel and receiver are Cerakoted, so the metal surfaces are fully covered. The synthetic stock is also impervious to moisture and won't swell or warp over time.
Inertia-driven shotguns generally cycle best with loads in the standard to heavier range, and very light 7/8 oz target loads can sometimes be marginal in any inertia gun. Standard 1 oz and heavier 20 gauge loads cycle reliably. If you plan to shoot a lot of light sub-loads, the gun may benefit from a break-in period with heavier factory shells first.
The OS suffix designates different Cerakote finish colors on the barrel and receiver. The OS3 variant, which is this model, features OD green Cerakote, giving it a subdued, field-oriented appearance. Other variants in the lineup use different Cerakote colors such as gray or flat dark earth, while the Old School Camo pattern on the synthetic furniture remains consistent across the series.
