The T R Imports Alpha 2 (A22026BG) is a 20 gauge inertia semi-auto built around one straightforward idea: give you a reliable, field-ready shotgun that holds up without a lot of fuss. The 26-inch chrome-lined barrel wears a gray Cerakote finish alongside the receiver, protecting both from the moisture and grime that come with a hard day in the field. A fiber optic front sight sits atop the ventilated rib, giving you a sharp, quick sight picture whether you're tracking a flushing bird or calling your lead on a crossing clay.
The inertia operating system is the engine of this gun, and it's the main reason a lot of people choose it over a gas-operated semi-auto. There are fewer moving parts involved, which means less to clean and less to go wrong. The Sure-Loc bolt system locks up positively on every shot, so you're not dealing with inconsistent cycling. Inertia guns also tend to run cleaner over a day of shooting since there's no gas port bleeding fouling back into the action. TR Imports also enlarged the bolt handle, bolt release tab, and feed port on the Alpha 2, which makes a genuine difference when you're wearing gloves or working in cold weather.
The fixed black synthetic stock holds up to weather and rough handling without worrying about warping or finish damage. An extra-thick recoil pad is built into the buttstock, which takes a noticeable edge off felt recoil in a lightweight 20 gauge. The ergonomics of the receiver, forend, and stock are shaped to feel natural in the hands and mount quickly to the shoulder. Three choke tubes are included in Crio-plus thread pattern (Cylinder, Modified, Full), covering you from close-flushing upland birds to longer passing shots on doves or clays. With a 3-inch chamber and 4+1 capacity, this gun handles the full range of standard and magnum 20 gauge loads.
The Alpha 2 in 20 gauge is well suited for upland work. The 26-inch barrel balances well for quick target acquisition on flushing birds, and the lighter 20 gauge makes it comfortable to carry through long days in the field. The inertia action cycles reliably whether you're running high-brass game loads or lighter target shells.
The Alpha 2 uses a Crio-plus thread pattern, which is compatible with Benelli and Beretta Mobil-style chokes. It ships with three tubes: Cylinder, Modified, and Full. That covers most hunting and clay shooting scenarios right out of the box, and the compatibility with widely available aftermarket chokes makes it easy to add options down the road.
Inertia actions have fewer moving parts than gas systems, which generally means less cleaning and fewer opportunities for fouling-related malfunctions. Gas guns pull spent propellant gases back through the action to cycle, which builds up residue faster. The Alpha 2's inertia system uses the energy of recoil to cycle the bolt, staying noticeably cleaner over a long shooting session. The tradeoff is that inertia guns tend to cycle less reliably with very light loads, so it's worth sticking to standard or heavier 20 gauge shells.
Both the barrel and receiver on the A22026BG wear a gray Cerakote finish. Cerakote is a ceramic-polymer coating that offers strong resistance to corrosion, moisture, and surface wear, making it a solid choice for a field gun that sees real use. Combined with the chrome-lined barrel interior, the Alpha 2 is built to hold up to extended use and the elements.
For a semi-auto 20 gauge, recoil is very manageable. The inertia action naturally spreads recoil impulse over a slightly longer cycle, and the Alpha 2 adds an extra-thick, soft recoil pad at the buttstock to take more of the edge off. Most people who shoot this gun come away pleasantly surprised at how soft it is, even with full-power field loads.
Inertia-operated shotguns in general work best with standard or higher-velocity loads, and the Alpha 2 is no exception. Very light 7/8 oz. or reduced-recoil target loads may not generate enough energy to cycle the action reliably, especially when the gun is brand new. A proper break-in with a couple of boxes of standard hunting or field loads is a good idea before running lighter ammo.
