The Tokarev TAR 12UC is a gas-operated, magazine-fed 12-gauge built around the AR/M4 layout. The controls are right where you'd expect them: the safety selector sits on the left side above the pistol grip just like an AR-15, and the magazine release falls naturally under your thumb. The aluminum upper receiver rides over an impact-resistant polymer lower, stock, and pistol grip that are all built as one unit. Yes, the 3-inch chamber handles standard 2 3/4-inch shells and 3-inch loads without any modification. Most common birdshot, buckshot, and slugs in either length will work fine. Like any semi-auto shotgun, it tends to cycle most reliably with standard or higher-velocity loads rather than very light target loads.
It comes ready to shoot with folding polymer flip-up front and rear backup iron sights already installed. The flat-top receiver also has a full-length Picatinny rail if you want to add a red dot or reflex sight, and the flip-ups fold down out of the way when you do.
The Urban Graffiti Camo is a hydrodip finish applied over the receiver and furniture. It holds up well under normal range use and handling, though like any decorative finish it can show wear on high-contact areas over time. The 4140 steel barrel itself has a standard black finish.
The gas-operated action does a solid job of cycling energy away from the shooter, and most people find the felt recoil noticeably softer than a comparable pump.
