A Serious Upgrade Over Factory Dovetails

Tikka rifles shoot better than most factory rifles have any right to, but the factory dovetail setup limits your ring options. The EGW HD Picatinny rail fixes that. This one-piece base bolts directly to your T3 or T3x receiver and gives you a full-length MIL-STD 1913 rail, so you can run any Picatinny or Weaver rings you like and position your scope exactly where it needs to sit. Because it’s a single piece of metal, your rings stay perfectly aligned, which takes a lot of stress off your scope tube and helps the rifle hold zero shot after shot.

HD Construction, Built in the USA

This is EGW’s HD version, which means it’s machined from solid 7075 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum instead of the 6061 used on the standard duty rail. That makes it the stiffest aluminum option EGW offers for the Tikka platform, a smart pick if you’re running a heavier scope or your rifle sees rough handling in the field. After machining, the rail gets a Type III hardcoat anodized matte black finish that shrugs off weather and wear. It’s also compatible with quick-disconnect rings, sits about .350 inches tall, and everything from the rail to the hardware is made in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.

Why 0 MOA

The 0 MOA cant is the right call for most hunting and general range work inside 500 yards. It keeps your scope’s adjustment range centered so you’re not burning turret travel just to get zeroed at normal distances. If you’re planning to dial way out past 500, EGW makes a 20 MOA version, but for the typical Tikka hunting rig, this is the one.

Fitment and Install Notes

Long and short action T3 and T3x receivers share the same hole spacing, so this rail fits all calibers. It does not fit the T3x TAC A1, which has its own integral rail. Standard 6-48 Torx screws and a wrench are included, which work for Tikkas made after 2004. EGW recommends 20 inch-pounds of torque and a drop of blue threadlocker for installation, and it’s worth cleaning any factory debris out of the receiver holes before you start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this rail fit both long and short action Tikka T3/T3x rifles?

Yes. Long and short action T3 and T3x receivers use the same hole spacing, so this single rail covers all calibers on the platform. The only exception is the T3x TAC A1, which has its own integral rail and uses a different EGW mount.

Should I get 0 MOA or 20 MOA?

Go with 0 MOA if most of your shooting is inside 500 yards, which covers nearly all hunting situations. The flat base keeps your scope adjustment centered for a normal zero. A 20 MOA rail only makes sense if you plan to dial elevation for long-range work, since the built-in cant preserves more of your scope’s upward travel.

What’s the difference between this HD rail and EGW’s standard Tikka rail?

The HD version is machined from solid 7075 T6 aluminum rather than 6061, making it the most rigid aluminum rail EGW offers for the Tikka. It also gets a tougher Type III hardcoat anodized finish, sits slightly lower at .350 inches, and is compatible with quick-disconnect rings. It’s the better pick for heavier optics or rifles that get used hard.

Do I need any special tools or hardware to install it?

Everything you need is in the package: 6-48 Torx screws and the wrench to drive them. EGW recommends torquing the screws to 20 inch-pounds with a small drop of blue threadlocker. A quality inch-pound torque driver is worth using for consistent results, and it’s smart to degrease the screw holes first.

My Tikka is older. Will the included screws work?

Tikkas made after 2004 are drilled and tapped for the 6-48 screws that come with this rail. Rifles made before 2004 may require metric screws instead, so check your receiver threads before installing. Tikka receivers are also known for having debris in the screw holes from the factory, so cleaning the threads with a bottoming tap can help the screws seat properly.

What ring height should I use with this rail?

It depends on your scope’s objective size. EGW measures ring height from the top of the rail to the centerline of the scope, and the rail itself adds about .350 inches above the receiver. For a common 40mm objective, medium-height rings generally work well, while larger 50mm objectives usually call for taller rings to clear the barrel.
