Description

The Gunfighter takes the proven 1873 single-action pattern and fixes the one complaint big-handed folks have had for over a century: the grip. Taylor's fitted the larger 1860 Army-size grip frame to this Uberti-built revolver, giving you noticeably more real estate to hold onto when you touch off a .45 Colt round. The checkered walnut stocks add some texture too, so the gun stays put in your hand instead of rolling around between shots.

Taylor Tuned Means Ready Out of the Box

This one wears the DE suffix, which tells you it left the shop with the Taylor Tuned action job. That means hand polished internals, custom springs, and a lighter hammer draw and trigger pull than a box-stock single action. If you have ever cocked a factory Italian clone next to a tuned one, you know the difference is night and day. Cowboy action competitors pay gunsmiths good money for this kind of work, and here it comes standard.

Gunfighter Looks That Match the Name

The finish combo is about as traditional as it gets: a blued 4.75-inch barrel and cylinder set against a color casehardened frame, with a blued steel triggerguard and backstrap rounding things out. Sights are the classic fixed blade front and frame notch rear, just like the originals. Overall length runs 10.35 inches and the gun weighs in at a handy 2.45 pounds unloaded, so it rides well in a holster all day.

Where the Gunfighter .45 Colt Earns Its Keep

The forged steel frame gives this revolver the strength and grain structure to hold up to steady use, whether that is a monthly cowboy match, plinking sessions at the range, or just scratching the itch for a proper single action that runs the way one should. The 4.75-inch barrel is the quickest-pointing of the classic lengths, which is exactly why the gunfighters of the era favored it. Six rounds of .45 Colt, a smooth four-click hammer, and honest walnut and steel. Some things do not need improving, just a little fine tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Taylor Tuned mean on the Gunfighter revolver?

Taylor Tuned is an in-house action job that includes hand polished internals and custom springs. The result is a lighter hammer pull and a cleaner, lighter trigger break compared to a standard factory single action. It is the kind of work cowboy action competitors typically send guns out for, done before it ever reaches you.

How is the Gunfighter different from a standard 1873 Cattleman?

The biggest difference is the grip. Taylor's fitted the larger 1860 Army-size grip frame to the 1873 Cattleman platform, which gives folks with bigger hands more to hold onto and helps manage recoil roll. This particular version also adds checkered walnut stocks and the Taylor Tuned action package.

Who manufactures the Taylors & Company Gunfighter?

It is built in Italy by Uberti, one of the most respected makers of traditional single-action reproductions, then imported and finished to Taylor's & Company specs. The frame is forged steel rather than cast, which gives it better grain structure and strength for regular shooting.

Is the 4.75 inch barrel a good choice for cowboy action shooting?

It is one of the most popular lengths for the sport. The shorter barrel clears leather faster and points quickly, which matters when the clock is running. You give up a little sight radius compared to a 5.5 or 7.5 inch gun, but most competitors find the speed worth the trade.
