Description

The 1875 Army Outlaw is Taylor's & Company's nod to Remington's Model 1875, a solid-frame single action that borrowed its lines from the earlier 1858 New Model Army cap-and-ball revolver. Remington built this one to go toe-to-toe with the Colt Single Action Army, and plenty of folks back then considered it the tougher gun thanks to that one-piece forged frame and backstrap. Frank James famously carried one through most of his outlaw days and called it the hardest and surest shooting pistol made, so the Outlaw name fits. This particular model comes dressed in an eye-catching white engraved finish, chambered in .45 Long Colt, and built by Uberti over in Gardone Val Trompia, Italy.

What Sets the 1875 Army Outlaw Apart

The big draw here is that solid-frame Remington profile, which looks noticeably different from the three-piece Colt clones everyone's used to seeing. The one-piece forged frame and backstrap give it a sturdy, planted feel in the hand, and the longer reach from backstrap to trigger is a nice bonus if you've got larger hands. The machined steel barrel is micro-threaded into the heat-treated steel frame, and it rides on a spring-retained cylinder pin with the webbed ejector rod tube running alongside.

Handling the White Engraved 1875 Outlaw

This is a single action through and through, so you're thumb-cocking the hammer for every shot. That full 7.5-inch barrel gives you a long sight radius, which helps steady things up on target, and the fixed sights keep it simple with a blade front and a notch milled into the top strap. The two-piece walnut grips and steel backstrap round out a package that tips the scales right around 2.3 pounds, so it carries its weight well. Owners consistently praise these for running smooth and shooting straight, with recoil that stays surprisingly manageable for a big-bore .45.

Whether you're setting up for Cowboy Action matches, plinking steel out at the range, or just want a historically-flavored sixgun with some serious curb appeal, the 1875 Army Outlaw delivers Old West character backed by modern Uberti machining.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes the Taylor's 1875 Army Outlaw?

The revolver is manufactured by Uberti in Gardone Val Trompia, Italy, and brought to market by Taylor's & Company. Uberti has a long-standing reputation for quality single action reproductions, and this 1875 Army Outlaw is no exception. You're getting modern precision machining dressed up in a historically accurate package.

Is the 1875 Army Outlaw a Colt or Remington design?

It's a Remington design, based on the Model 1875 Single Action that competed directly against the Colt Single Action Army. The main visual difference is the solid, one-piece forged frame and backstrap, which gives it a distinct look next to the three-piece Colt clones. Many shooters considered the original Remington the sturdier of the two.

Can I shoot cowboy action loads through this revolver?

Absolutely. The 1875 Army Outlaw in .45 Long Colt is a popular pick for Cowboy Action Shooting, and it handles standard lead cowboy loads well. The long 7.5-inch barrel and fixed sights make it a steady performer on steel targets.

How does the long 7.5-inch barrel affect handling?

That full-length barrel gives you a longer sight radius, which helps with accuracy and makes lining up the fixed sights easier. It does add a bit of nose-heavy balance, but most owners find it points naturally and shoots straight. It's the classic Old West silhouette that Frank James himself carried.
