The 1911 platform has been around for over a century, and for good reason. Taylor's & Company took that proven foundation and dialed it in for the modern shooter with the 1911 Tactical Full Size — a Government-frame pistol chambered in 9mm that comes loaded with practical upgrades right out of the box.
Built by Armscor in the Philippines (one of the largest 1911 manufacturers in the world), this pistol features a forged stainless steel 5" barrel inside a black Parkerized steel frame and slide. Armscor's track record with the 1911 platform is well established, and the tight slide-to-frame fit on these guns is something that tends to get noticed. The overall length comes in at 8.75" and the whole package weighs in at a solid 2.3 lbs unloaded — that full steel construction goes a long way toward eating up the already mild recoil of a 9mm.
On the controls and ergonomics side, Taylor's spec'd this one with the features that actually make a difference at the range. The extended beavertail grip safety lets you ride a high grip without worrying about hammer bite, and the ambidextrous thumb safety works equally well for left- and right-handed shooters. The skeletonized trigger and combat hammer give the pistol a clean, purposeful look while keeping the action feeling crisp. Front and rear slide serrations make cycling and press-checks easy in any conditions.
The sighting setup is where this Tactical model really separates itself from the basic Government-style 1911s in the same price range. A fiber optic front sight gives you a fast, bright aiming point, paired with an adjustable Novak-style rear that lets you dial in your zero. That combination — fiber optic up front, low-profile adjustable in the rear — is exactly what you'd expect on pistols priced considerably higher. The gray G10 grips round out the package with a texture that holds up without being uncomfortable during long range sessions.
This pistol is manufactured by Armscor in the Philippines, built to Taylor's & Company specifications. Armscor is one of the largest producers of 1911-platform pistols in the world and has a long history building reliable, accurate handguns for multiple brands. The result is a well-fitted, purpose-built 1911 that carries Taylor's roll mark but comes with Armscor's manufacturing pedigree behind it.
It ships with a fiber optic front sight for fast target acquisition and an adjustable Novak-style rear sight that you can dial in for windage and elevation. The Novak-style profile keeps a low snag-free silhouette while still giving you a solid, usable sight picture. This sighting setup is a genuine upgrade over what you typically find on budget-tier 1911s.
9mm in a 1911 frame has come a long way, and when the spring rates and magazine geometry are properly matched — which Armscor has put real effort into — these guns run dependably. Using quality 9mm single-stack 1911 magazines is recommended, as magazine choice has a bigger impact on reliability in this format than almost any other variable. The included magazine is a solid starting point.
The combination of a Government-size all-steel frame and the relatively mild 9mm cartridge makes for a very comfortable shooting experience. The weight of the pistol absorbs a significant portion of the impulse, and most people find follow-up shots come quickly and naturally. It's a great platform for extended range sessions without fatigue.
It's fully functional. The extended beavertail grip safety lets you establish a high, firm grip on the pistol without the web of your hand getting pinched by the hammer during the firing cycle — a common issue on standard GI-style 1911s. It also tends to naturally depress as part of a solid firing grip, so it doesn't interfere with the draw or the shot.
The Taylors & Company 1911 Tactical Full Size is actually a solid entry point into the 1911 world. The modern upgrades — ambidextrous safety, extended beavertail, fiber optic sights, and G10 grips — make it more forgiving and easier to run than a spartan GI-spec pistol. The 9mm chambering also keeps ammo costs reasonable for building up range time and getting comfortable with the single-action manual of arms.
