Description

There's a reason the Raging Hunter picked up American Hunter's Handgun of the Year Golden Bullseye back in 2019. Taurus built a legitimate big-bore hunting revolver with features that used to cost twice as much, and this edition dresses it up in a Burnt Bronze Cerakote finish with an orange Taurus bull graphic on the muzzle. It stands out in a case full of black revolvers, and it backs up the looks with real substance.

What Makes the Raging Hunter Work in the Field

The heart of this gun is its two-piece barrel system, a stainless steel sleeve inside an angular aluminum shroud. That design trims weight off the front end and balances the gun better than a solid slab of steel ever could, which is why this 5.125 inch model comes in at a carryable 49 ounces. Factory-tuned porting and a gas expansion chamber vent gases up and out to fight muzzle rise, and the cushioned insert rubber grip soaks up what's left. Full-house 44 Magnum loads still let you know they're there, but follow-up shots come back on target quicker than you'd expect, and 44 Special makes for downright pleasant practice sessions.

Optics Ready Out of the Box

A Picatinny rail is machined right into the barrel shroud, so mounting a red dot or a handgun scope takes minutes instead of a trip to the gunsmith. Prefer irons? The fixed front and adjustable rear sights are ready to go. The DA/SA action gives you a crisp single-action pull for deliberate shots on game, and the dual cylinder lockup, latching at both the front and rear of the cylinder, keeps everything tight and aligned under magnum pressures.

A 44 Mag Built for Hunters and Woods Carry

With six rounds of 44 Magnum on tap and a barrel length that splits the difference between packable and shootable, this Raging Hunter fits neatly into treestand hunts, backcountry carry, and range days where you just want to make some noise. It's a lot of revolver, and this bronze version has the personality to match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Taurus Raging Hunter 44 Mag shoot 44 Special?

Yes. Like any revolver chambered in 44 Magnum, it will safely fire 44 Special as well. Special loads are a great option for cheaper, softer-shooting practice sessions, and in this gun the recoil is barely noticeable compared to full-power magnums.

How bad is the recoil on the Raging Hunter in 44 Magnum?

It's noticeably tamer than most 44 Mags. The factory porting and gas expansion chamber push the muzzle down while the 49 ounce weight and cushioned rubber grip absorb the rest. Full-power loads still have some push, but most people find it very manageable, even fun. Just don't skip the ear protection since ported barrels are loud.

Can I mount a scope or red dot on this Raging Hunter?

Yes, and it's one of the gun's best features. A Picatinny rail is machined directly into the barrel shroud, so you can bolt on a red dot or a handgun scope without any drilling or extra mounts. If you'd rather run irons, the adjustable rear sight lets you dial in your preferred hunting load.

Is the 5.125 inch barrel long enough for hunting?

For short to medium range handgun hunting, absolutely. The 44 Magnum has plenty of authority on deer and hogs at typical treestand and still-hunting distances, and the shorter barrel makes this the easiest Raging Hunter to carry in a chest rig or hip holster. If you plan to stretch shots further, adding an optic on the built-in rail helps a lot.
