Description
Twenty years after the Judge created its own category, Taurus went back and gave the original a proper update. This 6.5 inch Duo Tone model is the standout of the new lineup, pairing a matte stainless steel frame with a deeply skeletonized black barrel shroud that has JUDGE machined right into the muzzle end. It photographs well, sure, but the cuts serve a purpose too, trimming weight off the front of the gun so the long barrel balances better in hand.
What the New Judge Does Differently
The big functional upgrade is up front. The old blacked-out blade is gone, replaced by an orange fiber optic front sight that picks up fast in low light and stays easy to track through recoil. Out back you get a drift adjustable rear sight, so you can dial in your point of impact for whatever load you settle on. Taurus also redesigned the rubber grip with better ergonomics and the bull medallion set into it, and the DA/SA action gives you a crisp single action pull when you cock the hammer or a straightforward double action pull when you just want to get to work.
One Cylinder, A Lot of Options
The five-shot cylinder handles .45 Colt cartridges and .410 shotshells up to 2.5 inches, and you can mix them in the same cylinder however you like. Load buckshot for close range defensive work, birdshot for snakes and pests around the property, or .45 Colt when you need a single solid bullet with reach. That flexibility is exactly why this platform became famous, and the 6.5 inch barrel adds sight radius and gives .410 patterns a little more room to develop compared to the snub models.
Where the 6.5 Inch Judge Earns Its Keep
At 44.5 ounces unloaded, this is a steel gun that soaks up recoil and shoots comfortably all afternoon. It is right at home on the trail, in the truck, riding along on the tractor, or sitting by the door at a rural place where the next problem might be a copperhead or something bigger. A transfer bar safety rounds out the package. Classic Judge versatility, cleaned up and better looking than ever.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this Taurus Judge shoot 3 inch .410 Magnum shells?
No, this model has 2.5 inch chambers, so it runs standard 2.5 inch .410 shotshells and .45 Colt only. If you want to run 3 inch .410 Magnum loads, look at the Judge Magnum line instead. For most defensive and pest control work, 2.5 inch loads get the job done just fine.
What makes the new Judge different from the older 6.5 inch models?
This is the refreshed version Taurus rolled out for the platform's 20th anniversary. It swaps the old plain black front blade for an orange fiber optic sight, adds a redesigned ergonomic rubber grip, and features a skeletonized barrel shroud with JUDGE engraved at the muzzle. The core five-shot .45 Colt/.410 formula stays exactly the same.
Is the 6.5 inch Judge too big to carry?
It's not built for concealed carry. At 44.5 ounces and over 12.5 inches long, this one is meant for the nightstand, the trail, the truck, or open carry on the ranch. If concealment is your priority, the 3 inch Judge is the better pick, but you give up sight radius and some velocity.
Can I mix .45 Colt and .410 shells in the cylinder at the same time?
Yes, and plenty of owners do exactly that. The cylinder accepts both interchangeably, so you can alternate buckshot and .45 Colt or load any combination that fits your needs. Just pattern your .410 loads at realistic distances first, since shot spreads quickly out of a handgun barrel.
