Description

The Taurus G3 came out of 2019 as a direct answer to everyone who loved the G2C but wanted more gun. Taurus took the compact G2C's proven DNA and scaled it up into a full-size frame with a longer 4-inch stainless steel barrel, more grip real estate, and a longer sight radius. The result is a pistol that feels genuinely good in hand, runs reliably, and delivers accuracy that holds up well at defensive distances and beyond.

The grip is one of the first things you notice. Taurus used an aggressive stippling pattern across the front strap, backstrap, and side panels that actually works without feeling like sandpaper. The ergonomic palm swell and the side-frame Memory Pads give your support hand a natural index point and help lock your grip in during rapid fire. The frame also features an integrated Picatinny rail up front for lights and lasers, and the beveled slide profile keeps things snag-free for holster work.

What Makes the Taurus G3 Trigger Stand Out

The 6-pound trigger gets a lot of attention, and for good reason. It has a smooth take-up, a clean break, and a short, tactile reset that makes controlled follow-up shots noticeably easier than what you typically get from budget-tier striker-fired pistols. The G3 also has second-strike capability, meaning if you get a light primer strike, you can pull the trigger again without racking the slide. That is a genuinely useful feature for a defensive pistol.

G3 Sights and Slide Details

The slide comes with front and rear machined serrations for a confident grip when running the action, and the rear of the slide is tapered to reduce snag on clothing or a holster. The sighting setup on this model includes a fixed white dot front sight and a drift-adjustable steel rear sight. The manual safety and slide release are both positioned right above the thumb for fast, intuitive access, and the reversible magazine release works for left-handed users too. A loaded chamber viewport on the slide lets you do a quick visual check without pulling the slide.

This 10-round configuration ships with two magazines, a cable lock, and an owner's manual. Overall weight comes in at 25 ounces unloaded, keeping it comfortable for extended range sessions or a nightstand role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taurus G3 good for home defense or everyday carry?

The G3 works well in both roles. The full-size frame gives you a longer sight radius and a more comfortable grip for extended range use, and at 25 ounces unloaded it is not excessively heavy. The manual safety, loaded chamber indicator, and multiple passive safeties make it a practical choice for a home defense setup, and plenty of people carry it with a good IWB holster.

How does the Taurus G3 trigger feel compared to other striker-fired pistols?

The G3 trigger is one of the better ones you will find at this price point. It has a smooth take-up, a 6-pound break that feels cleaner than many budget competitors, and a short, tactile reset. The G3 also has second-strike capability, which lets you attempt a follow-up pull on a light primer strike without racking the slide first.

Will G2C magazines work in the Taurus G3?

No, the G2C and G3 use different magazine patterns. The G3 uses SIG P226-pattern magazines, which opens up compatibility with MEC-GAR and other quality aftermarket options. Stick with G3-specific magazines or verified P226-pattern mags for reliable feeding.

Can I add a light or laser to the Taurus G3?

Yes. The G3 has a full-length integrated Picatinny rail on the frame's dust cover that accepts most standard weapon lights and lasers. It is a three-slot rail, so it will fit the majority of popular compact accessories on the market.

What is the difference between this 10-round G3 and the higher-capacity versions?

The pistol itself is identical across G3 configurations. The 10-round variant ships with two 10-round magazines rather than the 15- or 17-round magazines found in other versions. The frame, barrel, trigger, and all other features remain the same.

Does the Taurus G3 require a break-in period?

Like most modern semi-auto pistols, the G3 tends to run best after a couple hundred rounds through it. Running a variety of quality 9mm ammunition during early range sessions helps everything seat and cycle smoothly. After that initial period, the G3 has a strong reputation for reliable function with quality factory ammunition.
