Description

Tanfoglio has been building world-class handguns out of Gardone Val Trompia in northern Italy since the 1960s, and the Force line has been one of their most beloved platforms globally since its introduction in 1997. The Force Esse takes that well-proven frame and updates the formula in a meaningful way: this is Tanfoglio's first striker-fired pistol developed entirely in-house, and the name says it all. "Esse" is how Italians pronounce the letter S, as in striker-fired.

The setup is straightforward and well thought out. You get a 4.4-inch stainless steel barrel inside a serrated steel slide, all sitting on a polymer frame that keeps the weight down without sacrificing any durability. Front and rear cocking serrations give you positive purchase on the slide whether you're doing press checks, clearing a malfunction, or just running drills at speed. The three-dot fixed sights are simple and clean, exactly what most people want for a duty-style pistol. A frame-mounted manual safety is included alongside the internal firing pin block, so you've got a layered safety setup that still lets the gun run like a proper striker-fired platform.

Capacity comes in at 16+1 in 9mm, which is a solid count for a full-size service pistol. The polymer frame includes a full-length Picatinny rail up front, so mounting a light or laser is a plug-and-play affair. At just over 8 inches overall and around 29.6 ounces empty, the Force Esse is sized and weighted like a serious duty pistol without being excessive about it.

This one is well-suited to range work, serious training sessions, home defense, or anyone who wants a full-size 9mm from a manufacturer with real competition pedigree behind it. The Force Esse already secured law enforcement contracts in other parts of the world before it ever hit U.S. shelves, which speaks to how the platform was designed and what it was built to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Force Esse different from other Tanfoglio Force pistols?

The Force Esse is Tanfoglio's first striker-fired pistol developed entirely in-house. While the rest of the Force lineup uses a traditional double-action/single-action hammer-fired system, the Esse brings a consistent striker-fired trigger pull to the same familiar frame and ergonomics. It's essentially the modern evolution of the Force platform for buyers who prefer a striker-fired setup.

Does the Tanfoglio Force Esse have a manual safety?

Yes, it does. The Force Esse includes a frame-mounted single-sided manual safety in addition to an internal firing pin block safety. This gives you the option to carry or store the pistol with an extra layer of security while still benefiting from the consistent trigger pull that striker-fired systems are known for.

Can I mount a weapon light on the Force Esse?

Absolutely. The polymer frame features a full-length Picatinny rail on the dust cover, which is compatible with most standard weapon lights and laser units. It's a clean, integrated rail, so there's nothing to add or modify.

How does the Force Esse handle for someone with smaller hands?

The Force Esse is a full-size pistol with a double-stack magazine, so the grip has some width to it. It's most comfortable for medium to larger hands. The textured polymer grip does help with control, but if grip width is a concern for you, it's worth getting your hands on one in person before committing.

What kind of holsters fit the Tanfoglio Force Esse?

Because the Force Esse is a relatively recent and somewhat niche import, dedicated holsters can take some searching. The platform shares ergonomic similarities with other Tanfoglio Force pistols, so some CZ-75 and Force-compatible holsters may work, but you'll want to confirm fitment before relying on one. It's always worth checking with holster makers that specialize in European pistols or have the Force Esse listed specifically.

Who imports Tanfoglio pistols into the United States?

As of 2024, Tanfoglio firearms are exclusively imported to the U.S. by Italian Firearms Group (IFG), based in Amarillo, Texas. They handle parts availability and warranty support, which is good to know if you ever need service down the road.
