Description

The TacFire Linear Compensator is a stainless steel muzzle device built to take the sting out of shooting short-barreled .308 rigs. Instead of venting gas out to the sides like a muzzle brake, a linear comp channels the muzzle blast, concussion, and unburnt powder straight forward, sending all that fire and fury downrange rather than back at your face. That makes a real difference on AR pistols and SBRs, where a short barrel dumps a lot of extra pressure and flash out the front.

What the TacFire Linear Comp Actually Does

Worth setting expectations up front: a linear compensator doesn't quiet your rifle the way a suppressor does. It redirects the sound and shockwave forward, so the shooter and anyone standing beside you at the range gets a much more comfortable experience. Perceived recoil and that punchy concussion you feel behind a stubby .308 both get toned down, which is the whole point of running one of these on a short gun.

Fit, Finish, and Threading on the .308 Linear Compensator

This one is machined for 5/8"-24 threads, the standard pitch for .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrels, with a 2.26" overall length and a slim .875" outer diameter. The stainless finish gives it a clean, no-nonsense look that pairs well with just about any build, and folks who've run these note the fit and finish come across nicer than the price tag suggests. It threads on easily with no timing or crush washer to fuss with, so you can spin it on and be ready to shoot in a couple minutes.

Because it directs everything straight ahead, this comp earns its keep most on barrels under 16 inches where blast is harshest. If you're building out an AR-10 pistol, a .308 SBR, or just want a friendlier setup for the guys sharing your lane, this TacFire linear comp is a straightforward, budget-minded way to get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the TacFire Linear Compensator make my .308 quieter?

Not in the way a suppressor does. It redirects the muzzle blast and noise forward and away from you rather than reducing the overall decibel level, so the rifle is still loud downrange. You'll still want to run hearing protection, but the shooter and anyone beside you get a noticeably more comfortable experience.

What threads does this linear comp fit?

It's cut for 5/8"-24 TPI, which is the standard thread pitch on .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor barrels. It installs without timing or a crush washer, so you can spin it on by hand and snug it down in a couple minutes. Double-check your muzzle threads before ordering to be sure they match.

Is a linear compensator worth running on a long barrel?

Linear comps shine most on barrels under 16 inches, like AR-10 pistols and short-barreled rifles, where muzzle blast and concussion are harshest. On a full-length rifle you'll see less benefit since there's less unburnt powder exiting the muzzle. If you're building a short .308, this is exactly the kind of setup it was made for.

Does this comp help with recoil and muzzle rise?

It takes the edge off perceived recoil and concussion by pushing gas straight forward, which makes short .308 builds feel calmer to shoot. That said, it isn't a dedicated muzzle brake, so if flat-shooting recoil reduction is your top priority a brake will do more in that department. For blast and concussion management on a short gun, the linear design is the way to go.
