The polymer M&P has earned its keep in duty holsters for years, but there's something about a metal frame that just settles a pistol down. That's the whole idea behind the M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact. Smith & Wesson took the proven M2.0 platform and built it on a rigid 7075-T6 aluminum frame, which adds a touch of weight right where you want it and helps the gun track flatter shot to shot. Pair that with the 3.6 inch stainless steel barrel and you get a pistol that carries like a compact but shoots noticeably softer than its size suggests.
The frame and stainless slide both wear Tungsten Gray Cerakote, a finish that holds up to holster wear and sweat far better than most factory coatings, and it looks sharp doing it. The 18-degree grip angle gives you a natural point of aim, and the aggressive M2.0 texture keeps the gun planted even with sweaty hands. Four interchangeable palmswell inserts (S, M, ML, L) let you tune the grip to your hand, and the low bore axis cuts down on muzzle flip so your dot or sights come right back on target. This version includes a thumb safety and ships with two 10-round magazines, and it stays compatible with M2.0 Compact mags, holsters, and palmswells you may already own.
The slide comes cut for Smith & Wesson's C.O.R.E. plate system, so mounting a red dot is a plate swap rather than a machining bill. Prefer irons? The white three-dot sights are ready to go out of the box. You also get the M2.0 flat-face trigger for consistent finger placement, forward and rear slide serrations that are easy to grab, a reversible mag release, and a Picatinny-style rail up front for a light. Whether it rides in a nightstand or an IWB holster, this is one of the most refined compacts in the M&P lineup, and the metal frame makes it a genuinely fun range gun too.
The slide uses Smith & Wesson's C.O.R.E. plate system, which supports most popular micro red dot footprints including the Shield RMSc pattern. You mount your optic using the appropriate adapter plate, so there's no gunsmithing involved. The factory white-dot sights stay on the slide as a backup.
The big change is the 7075-T6 aluminum frame in place of polymer, which adds a bit of weight and rigidity. That extra heft helps the gun shoot flatter and recover faster between shots, and the Tungsten Gray Cerakote finish is very durable. It remains compatible with M2.0 Compact magazines, holsters, and palmswell inserts.
Yes, this particular model (SKU 14106) includes a thumb safety and ships with two 10-round magazines. Smith & Wesson also makes versions without the thumb safety and with higher capacity mags, so double check the part number if you have a preference.
It hits a nice middle ground. The shortened grip and 3.6 inch barrel conceal well inside the waistband, while the aluminum frame gives it a planted, controllable feel that smaller micro nines can't match. At roughly 26 ounces unloaded, it carries comfortably with a quality holster and belt.
